My hubby used to be the most non horsey person going, he would moan about the time I spend at the yard, moan at the mud in the car, moan about his scatchy clothes after I washed their rugs in the washing machine, moan about my alarm waking him every morning (5am) and moan about the amount of money I would spend on them. He never would even give them a carrot if he was with me at the yard!
Now they are his babies, he fusses them, takes them out for walks in hand, buys them new rugs, does all the manual work, poo picks even in the pouring rain, makes them the fluffiest of beds and the fattest haynets, the horses are shiny, the fields are managed well and look spotless, his car is full of polo wrappers and caked in mud. His car boot is full of damp smelly rugs to come home to dry.
He is now a fully fledged member of the yard, and loves the hustle and bustle, and yard chitchat, How did all this happen? I slipped a disc, and have been seriously immobile for 5 months, I did really worry about how he would cope with the daily chores/kids/his 2 jobs/ his evening course at college let alone fitting in the time to look after 2 horses! But he has done me proud :) Now he is even asking for riding lessons so he can enjoy the other side of the horses now :)
I just love him even more :)

Is your hubby a convert too?

Well done Mr Elephant, my OH doesn't have a lot of time spare but only once in 19years has he ever complained about the time and money I spend on mine.

He is probably enjoying being a male amongst all the young joddie clad girlies lol.

Bless him, funny how they turn up trumps when we really need them to.

Mine was already horsey when we met (I wasn't making THAT mistake twice!) and he is brilliant with the herd; no way would we have more than one horse without his help.

Hope your back heals soon and you can go teach hubby to ride!

Shoeby (my OH's name- due to a drunken event) was a fully fledged Bolton Coty Boy!

He couldnt even figure out which way round a rug went (wish I had taken a photo, fillet string threaded over his head very carefully as if putting on a cape, chest straps done up under tail). Nearly having a heart attack when picking his feet out the first time when he got to back feet and Mr P just picked up ''he's kicking me, he's going to kill me, you are not going near his back feet''.

Now we can muck out, brush, do feet, rugs, tack up..... everything except load! PJ gets a bit excited loading and tends to canter up the ramp. Shoeby couldnt keep up and face planted going in to the lorry!!

I do like my un- paid groom!! (except he is now muscling in on my riding time!! best get this 2nd pony soon)
