I'm a self proclaimed wuss when it comes to horses I don't know (although when i trust them I don't mind nuttyness at all

) and XC scares me....

Went and helped a friend run a little horsecamp over the last couple of days and ended up getting on a 16.3hh horse I'd never ridden before, on the XC course and jumping him

I'm so proud of myself as I'd have never even agreed to get on him a few years ago and think having not ridden properly since Easter half helped as I'd desperate to grab rides where I can at the moment. He was good as gold, did some work on the flat then popped a log and had a play in the water before calling it a day as he was a bit tired and I didn't want to push my luck. But I'm very proud anyway

Whats daft is I'd jump Misty round XC who was mental and likely to stop if you didn't ride every stride and I jumped 3ft6 on Ruby (although all my nasty falls have been XC so I think the nerves come from knowing what might happen) but having given up loaning Ruby at Easter and ridden a grand total of 4 times since (and I can feel my balance etc isn't the same) I'm amazed I got on in retrospect.

I wouldn't say that...I'm not very good really....capable yes but over thinking and nerves means I'm rubbish IMO because I stop riding when I'm scared. Ok I don't hold on I just sit there but still...
