My sister rode her as whilst i wouldn't say i am too heavy for her at 12 stone, I am slightly wary of her back muscles being weaker the entire of her topline has gone which we expected so for proper hard work my little light sister rode her. Tess was perfect no hassle what so ever, her ears were constantly on the go taking in everything that my sister asked and has gone from being pottery and stiff a few weeks ago to being flexible and free in her movement . Anyhow Pictures speak a 1000 words.

As always she's a stunner :)

But... (and I have come back to this thread four times and wondered whether to write this) she will need a proper programme of work that will bring her back to fitness. I know your sis probably just cantered a circle on her but it did make me 'eeeeep'.

I'd be sticking to walk for a few weeks...

I think it's fine to be riding. Just not cantering or even trotting two days in :), but then I am sure plenty of others disagree.

This is a personal gripe of mine. I stabled with a girl who had an elderly Arab mare (23 but not always a 'well' 23) and she would often declare 'I'm bringing Boo back into work'. What she meant is 'Boo hasn't had anyone on her back for 6 months, but I'll lead her out once and then she will carry someone for an hours hack the following day'.

GRRRRRRR.

Thank you, she has been worked for the past week or two in mainly walk with some trot today was the first proper schooling which we did all 3 literally a quick canter. Thank you for your concern and obviously everyone has different views on this being some people ride them as soon as foaly is popped out ! Her work will be light and mainly walk and trot working on getting her fitness up.

No she isn't :) However she is almost 5 and a half months old, whilst Tess is doing work Dolly is eating and mooching about no problems there.

I totally agree again Billie this was probably my fault, as people i have on FB would know i have been working her lightly for the past 2 weeks just in walk doing some dressage moves and just getting her using all those muscles. Mum was there today and asked Jenna to pick up the trot and canter the session was a maybe 20 minutes max ? mainly made up of walking, getting her bending circles, half pass etc.
 
Its great that she is taking being back ridden so well.
I dont think the odd canter is going to do her any harm especially if you are mostly working in walk and trot, she prob does more work having a gallop around the field than doing a few canter circles!

I think she enjoys some time away from Dolly, she cannot even roll without the little mite climbing on her. We wouldn't dream of cantering her round and round without having built up to it :) Slow and steady is the key here i think. Defo when she is racing that crazy baby of hers :)
