On Saturday, after their riding lesson the grandson and niece were stamping divots down in the field, when they headed towards the horses in the barn.
It turns out my horse, who likes pawing at things, had gotten his hoof well and truly
stuck in his haynet, we were 2 mins behind the kids (13 & 14) by which time they had a rope round his neck and were keeping him calm, both are novices by the way, but didn't panic, we had to cut the haynet away from the horses hoof, luckily with no harm done, binned the haynets, it's either feed from the floor or from the hayracks from now, even my lad couldn't get his foot in the racks.
Take a well deserved bow, Jessica and Mathew, so proud of you

Well done them! Lucky horse to have sensible kids like that on hand who could have ran/screamed and panicked him but were able to calm him till you arrived :)

Considering they still need a lot of supervising, they did well to realise something was amiss and my niece remembered from her lesson that if she worried (car coming) the horse would,
Got to say, my horse should have been a cat, the scrapes he gets into, a total plonker, his pet name is Rodney, but so so proud of the kids

Despite the bad press some get, I have found that teenagers can be very resourceful and sensible, well done to your two.

I have stopped using haynets for the same reason, but with me it was a fear of that happening not that it had. Been really pleased with hay racks in stables this winter, and on the ground in field has worked well.
