After struggling since Easter with lameness issues and 4 vet visits I insisted on a referral. I took my boy to Willesley yesterday and they immediately spotted his sore back (as I suspected, but my vet wouldn't have it). His x-rays and untrasound didn't show any major trauma and they think its due to his poorly developed back muscles (probably due to time off and a rubbish rider not working him in the right shape!)
He's to be lunged in a pessoa for 6 weeks and then go back to be checked. I've been told he should be a different horse by then and ready to cope with ridden work.
I'm so relieved - I'd got to the point when I thought I might never be able to get him sound enough to ride. I'm pretty rubbish at lunging so the practice will do me good too.
Any tips for using a pessoa will be gratefully received!

Don't have it too tight let the horse get used to it gently.I work long to start then move it up and work him like that ,then loosen it again to stretch and cool down.

Fingers crossed for you. My horse has just come back from Willesley this week and they're fantastic. If you're not sure how tight to work your horse in the pessoa give the Willesley a ring and they'll advise you, they're really patient and won't mind at all. Let us know how you get on. Good luck.

thats great news
