I saw that Park Lane Riding School in Ramsden Heath is for sale and felt really quite sad. That riding school was my childhood. I ended up, at one time or another, working for all 3 sisters who ran the place and just have such happy memories of all the mischief we would all get up to as kids. It's such a shame that withall the liability cases and laws these days that kids can't really help out at yards, like we once could.

How sad, the riding school I attended as a 6 to 10yo closed when the old lady died. It was Mrs Olivants Radcliffe Riding School on the edge of Bradford in Yorkshire. It was run from her beautiful house and the stables were in her garden. There was no arena, we learnt to ride in the fields, none of the girls were BHS trained but Mrs Olivant ran the yard, we had a fish and chip lunch for the Saturday helpers, she ran a Wednesday evening pony club for the child riders, took us to local shows and threw a Christmas party.
Even now the smell of a muck heap in the winter reminds me of this friendly happy little yard in the 1960's

I leart to ride there too many moons ago! When I was old enough i used to help out at weekends - I can remeber riding the pony's bareback with headcollars on to be turned out, with one being led either side - those were the days!

Still do it with my horse now, and people think I am either very brave or very stupid! (always wear a hat tho)

Let's hope the person who buys it keeps it as a riding school!

I've gone all nostalgic now. Still have a picture of my at my very first lesson at the grand old age of 7. The horse must have been about 17hh as his withers are as tall as my Dad!
