I'm so happy at the moment. Just back from the yard and lunged Penny for about 20 minutes prior to getting on. Now the last time I rode her we had strops and rearing so was a bit nervous. She is a difficult horse and has many many 'quirks' which we're working on. But tonight when I got on after lunging her she was fantastic. It was the first time I really felt like we were a team and I had a huge grin the entire time I was on her. The aim was to be relaxed in walk and trot without being a giraffe and then get a decent canter on both reins (only managed canter on the right rein, her good one, so far). Well she was not only relaxed from the word go but we had two beautiful canters on either rein including fulling controlled 20 meter circles. I know this seems like its not that big a deal but she's only been broken a month or so and we are going slowly as she panics if you push her too much. So I am over the moon and can't stop smiling. Confirmed that I did by the right one (I was umming and aahhing between her and a gelding).
