So, pretty much for the first time in 11 years....there are no dogs outside!

I packed them off for their holidays a few days before mine so I could get some work done.
I thought I would enjoy the peace and quiet, but it was horrible!

It is so weird looking outside and not seeing a dog looking up hopefully and wondering if we are going out, a dog lying snoozing, even a dog going spare because the cheeky cat is parading past with in inches of their noses, with her tail in the air.

I don't have to get up at the crack of dawn to feed them or take them out for a run.
I have spent the last two days going to put on my waterproof and wellies and then realising I don't have to.
It feels so weird and has made me realise how much of my life is actually spent with them

I spent ages getting to sleep last night panicing, we live in the middle of nowhere and while it is annoying when they start up at 4am because a fox dared to make a move three fields away, it is lovely to know they are there and will raise merry hell at the slightest disturbance

The whole place feels completely empty!

So the next time you hear me complain about them, the next time you see me write 'BLOODY DOGS!' just remind me of this feeling.
What the hell do we do without them??!!!

And, of course, they didn't give me backward glance when I left them off yesterday...

I know the feeling!! I was away with work for 3 days ths week - mutts went to parents to get spoilt

- I always like the idea of a lie in, not walking the dogs etc but instead I kept phoning to make sure the boys were ok

- was Max's first holiday (managed to get out 3 times and jump in the neighbours pond!!

) and I sat twiddling my thumbs wondering what 'normal' people do with the hour - hour and half at night that I walk the dogs and feed horses

........(the answer by the way is go to the bar!!

I know exactly what you mean, I have been without Henry all week and I miss him

It's been lovely to have that little extra bit of time in bed but so horribly quiet without him about

Also my mum is talking about not giving him back, I may need an HHO posse to be formed to go get him

I guess at least they have bonded

Never been without dogs at home, when we go on holiday dogs stay here and friend moves in. Know just what you mean though, the other week when Saffie was at the vets (just for 24 hours) I kept looking out of the kitchen window at her kennel and it was empty - horrible

Are you not trusting your Ma with the asbo twins while you are away in case they gain several pounds in weight
wink.gif

Hmph, you think you've got problems with parents - I have just been informed that Henry has managed to eat a tennis ball while in the custody of the folks
mad.gif
Apparently he chewed it up several days ago but they didn't dare tell me until they were sure he was ok

She has decided to swan off on her hols too, even thought I have had this booked for months, so much for the 'we're never going away at the same time ever again' hystrionics in...April.
Plus when I left them last time I returned to find B's ear was half hanging off and she claimed it must have happened overnight

Know exactly how you feel CaveCanem - the only time we went away for a weekend without my dog, she stayed with a friend. We were quite looking forward to the chance of a lie-in without a "starving" Labrador trying to tell us that it was time for breakfast at 5 am - but all that happened was that I missed her as soon as I woke up - I hated not seeing her at the bottom of the stairs, wriggling her bottom in greeting. Are we sad?!!!
smile.gif

Haha. We used to leave our old girl at home with friends and we probably could leave Bella as she is pretty easy to deal with, but B is a bit of a diva

luckily the guy who owns the kennels comes to our club and knows all his quirks - and I wouldn't feel right splitting them up.

The time tikka had her accident , I had to put her in the kennels ...It was so strange not having her around the house, Opening and closing the front door to let her out, Even thought the boys where in the house I would be shouting ... "tikka go to bed" and her not even there

.

Sure you would miss them, they can be a total pain in the proverbial but sure you wouldn't be without them

When do you leave ?
