Thank you so much for all your kind and thoughtful posts regarding my lovely Bisto, they are helping through a very sad time. So, the decision is made, I am officially looking for another horse to continue my riding journey. Having bought my first for my 50 birthday and then one for my 60th, the lovely Bisto for my 65th, I will be looking for another for my 70th. Thanks to Bisto I am no longer the nervous novice rider that I was but I still will need something sane and kind to put a smile on my face. Keep your eyes and ears open for me please. The picture was taken on the first day that I rode him after bringing him home and before I realised he looked awful in white bandages. The second was taken a couple of years later when I'd got a bit more muscle on him. I doubt that I will find anything quite like him but you never know what is round the corner, do you?

oldie48, I have the greatest respect for you - I'll turn 70 on my next - and haven't ridden for 5 years. i DO intend to do so once the docs get their act together and I get my hip jabbed - but I'll bet I won't sit as well as you still do. Hell, I'm even giving up on breeding the ruddy things after this year.

But my horses DO tend to be good for people who like sane and kind horses! Are you particularly keen on a gelding? And I'm guessing Bisto is around 16-16.2? I certainly can't do you a coloured - but that would probably be a mistake for you. Too much of a reminder of what you lost and it might not match up. I AM very close to you.

Janet, Bisto was a full up 16.2, 7/8th TB the other bit was RID and I was not a fan of coloured horses tbh, the big joke was always too big, wrong breed and wrong colour. For me it's about temperament and suitability so I am very open to suggestions.
 
You have made my day Oldie48. I have been worrying that I will be too old by the time I can afford another horse after losing Quigley. I am 60 and fit but mentally feeling that life is intent on giving me a kicking whenever possible. HMRC came after me and took every penny I owned. A junior colleague was telling lies about me and I couldn't understand why I was being subjected to so much scrutiny by my managers leaving me feeling anxious and vulnerable. That was sorted out and I succeeded in getting the job of my dreams and the horse of my dreams only to loose Quigley after a few months. I am going to do my best to block that persistent thought pattern that anything I try to do will be futile or end in disaster and use you as my inspiration

I totally agree with Pinks, you look amazing and are an inspiration to anybody getting older who thinks it's too late.
The chance to visit Janet and buy one of her horses is something i would definitely be doing if i was in your position!.
I really wish you the best of luck in your search for another companion
ps.... there are some amazing Spanish horses over here:)

Sounds like you should come and see me then. Everything from 15.2 - 17hh- some done a bit more than others but all (or at least most) pretty sensible. This one is the tiddler - she is only 15.2 but built like a tank!Canda.jpg

Oh gosh, thank you. TBH I've been a bit wobbly today, then just went completly flat as if all the life had been sucked out of me. I can't tell you how much I have appreciated the support I've been given by fellow h&hers.
 
I've said before that I think you're a massive inspiration, not just because look flipping amazing for your age, but also because your attitude to life is seriously cool.

I'm excited for whatever funky equine you set your heart on, because they will have a lovely life ahead.

I also want to still be riding when I am 70! I once met an 80 year old lady riding her Highland Pony in an EGB ride looking fab. She had run a riding school before retiring.
I am mid 50s now and my main riding pony is 12 years old. When I got him he was 3 years old and when I bought him in the back of my mind I thought that we would be growing old together. As he is a native I think that there is a fair good chance that he will still be going in his mid twenties and I am mid 60s but slowing down and be an OAP by the time I am in my 70s. Trouble is I have two ponies and my older pony is in his early 20s so there is a chance that I might lose him and if I do I will have to get another to keep the other pony company .... and so it goes on :-)

But isn't that the secret of life, to just see it going on and on and on! By the way, I'm not very elegant I just post good pics. I thought Bisto would see me out and we would retire together but sadly he hasn't. Your pony either will or won't see you into retirement but you will face that when the time comes and you can't plan ahead. I rode my friends horse today, the rain stopped and the sun came out and he went really very well for me and I felt happy for an hour or so. I'm going to try a horse tomorrow, he won't be Bisto but who knows, he might be a new best friend. Keep your fingerscrossed for me! (and thank you for your very kind words)

Absolutely! I thought I'd bought my last horse 3 horses ago but I lost 2 far too young, then bought an older horse, who sadly has also now gone. Fingers crossed the young cob really is my last horse! If she lives to be 30, I will be in my 80s!
