Was looking forward to my usual weekend hacks, haven't ridden Mystic since wed (only 15min walk & trot in the school) and Monty has done nothing since last sun.
Thought great when heard this weekend would be warmer and yes snow and frost has melted but I now have a horrible cold , constantly blowing my nose, sneezing etc and turning out and mucking out uses most of my energy so I now don't feel like riding and leading possibly excitable horses :(
Feel bad for not riding and its going back to - temps this week so by the time this cold clears up we will prob have snow and ice again

Oh and I ended up having to walk back from the yard this morning as the clutch cable snapped just as we drove out of the yard so we pushed it back into the yard and left it there (well as I am currently the weakest I sat in the car and steared :D).

Sorry for the moan anyone else still not able to ride or under the weather?

I haven't ridden for a fortnight now because of the snow and there's no sign of me doing it soon. The snow is still a foot deep in the fields and is compacted on the roads. We haven't an arena so have to go out on the roads to go on bridle paths or to hire the local arena.

I'm fed up but keeping fit by trudging around the snow, putting hay in fields etc. Thankfully I haven't got a cold yet like some of my freinds!

I know how you feel, went out last weekend and regretted it because the roads were a little sleepy and the ground was hard, so now we have given in, I do plan to do some ground work with them though this afternoon, but after a mega poo picking session feeling a little sleepy now. Probably clean my bridles and do other horsey stuff. I know how you feel this weather brings an abrupt stop to your riding routine with no end in sight

They are out 24/7 so no probs exercise wise but I so miss riding:)

Sorry guys! We went out this morning after a week of being grounded. It was a lovely ride and all the tracks were fine and no snow/ice to be seen. I have been going stir crazy without it though.

I do feel bad for moaning when others have so much snow, I was just looking forward to a good hack now roads are no longer like an ice rink and can only hack at the weekend.

There are lots of horrible viruses about at the moment :-( I rode for the first time in a week or two today, but it was still icy, we had a few 'slidey' moments!

I've been lucky have managed to hack out 3 times this week. Not had any snow, the ice has melted. Cant use normal canter tracks due to unmelted snow from 2 weeks ago. Hoping to ride again tom, if ice thaws from tonight.

I've just had mine back from a months reschooling. Since he's been back I've been unable to ride due to weather and being ill with the noro virus. I feel jinxed! :(

We've still got loads of lying snow and guess what - there's more coming tonight! Not looking forward to my 6am visit to the yard tomorrow. We have a small indoor school which is great in this weather but as my darling has lost a shoe I've not ridden this weekend either :(

I am usually completely anal about exercising horse every day so he's 100% fit for hunting. I managed to ride 5 days last week doing a quick 4 mile round trip trot but then the snow came and now that ride is lethal. I have decided this week there really isn't any point even trying. Its dangerous on every road bar the main road and I really don't fancy having to share the road with the lorries and buses that come through the valley first thing.

I can't get to the flat field to do squares and circles in so have admitted defeat and won't attempt to ride again until it defrosts enough to be safe. I missed half the hunting season last season with a broken leg and missing a few days hunting due to horse not being quite fit enough this season is nowhere near as bad as that so I just have to give in graciously!!

Horse is out on a very steep hill so should keep himself warm climbing up and down. Fingers crossed!!

I can only hack right now as we dont have a school, our paddocks are covered in ice and are too solid and rough for much more than a walk. Was desperate to get out today on the roads as all the snow is gone, but now its a pea soup of a fog and its just not safe. :( I am so fed up with not riding. :(

Not been able to ride for 3 weeks now due to firstly the frost and frozen school, then snow, then more snow, then even more snow, now it's all frozen rock solid :( can't even access the indoor school just up the village because the roads are 3'' deep with solid ice :( and can't exercise in the fields because the snow is too deep and frozen solid too, so much for keep them fit, doesn't look like my lad will out hunting in the new year now it's really quashed my plans on getting him fit, gutted.

Ps forgot to say, -13 this morning down at our yard, no chance of this thawing anytime soon, apparently it's going to be cold till the new year, so I might as well hang up my boots for a few months!

We're still knee deep in the white stuff and what has been compacted is sheet ice.
Its hit the dizzy heights of -10 degrees today and we've got more snow on the way.
The menage is under 18 inches of snow and if we clear it its sheet ice underneath, the fields are 2ft under snow and the roads around the yard are like skating rinks.
The one redeeming factor is we are managing to turn them out during the day, at my last yard they were in last winter for 3 weeks!! That said I'm still not looking forward to getting on the beast when we finally can....
Last year we missed all the xmas shows due to the weather and it looks like the same again this year :(
Boo hisss!

You lucky people that have no snow or ice!!!

We have gone from waste hight to keen hight, and now where we cleared it get my poor lad out the field there is about 4inch deep of ice!!! So not ridden and have a cold, from digging out my 4X4 out, think I'm the only one that can get a 4X4 stuck. The worst thing is the weight of the car also took the farmers tractor with it!!!!!! Good job he can drive, and didn't leave me.
