Do they really help to sit you in the right place then. I've been riding for years but have a really sloppy forward seat.

Even when I'm consciously trying to sit properly my instructor rams my leg back further.

Now I've been umming and arring over a new saddle but as I already have a forward cut jumping saddle I'm thinking of trying a dressage 1.

My question to you guys then is: will a dressage saddle help to naturally sit me with my legs in the correct place or am I kidding myself and it's bits of string on the girth time??

thanks

I find a dressage saddle really helps me. I have trouble keeping my legs back when riding in a jumping or GP saddle but in a dressage saddle they just automatically go in the right position. It depends what you want to do though - if you do a lot of jumping and will only have the one saddle I wouldn't go for a dressage saddle!

A decent dressage saddle will indeed help you get your leg under you more as the stirrup bars will be set back slightly. You will find it much easier to get a correct shoulder/hip/heel alignment in a dressage saddle. The wintec pro dressage is well designed in this sense and not very pricey.

No sorry I mean I intend to keep the jumping saddle and get a dressage 1 as well.

Have never really got on with Wintec saddles though but will certainly look it up........ any further suggestions??

THanks all

I can recommend a barnsby richard davison dressage saddle, pricey to buy new but i got mine for £300 second hand and in good nic!! Sounds like i have a similar problem when riding in my forward cut jumping saddle. Most people have remarked that my position is miles better when in this saddle. Because it is deep seated i also feel very secure. Best £300 ive spent!!

I have a T6 Thorowgood Dressage saddle, give me a good position very nice to ride in really helps my seat.

Not to pricey as well, mine was 395.00 GBP new

I bought a wintec 500 dressage (leather look) in march and was amazed at how much it has helped me out. Cheap also @ £300 (as dressage is my 2nd discipline).

I had a Richard Davison on my old horse and when I got Whisk it didn't fit him!! Was I ever gutted 'cos I loved that saddle. I still can't bring myself to sell it even though Hads will probably never use it again. He is 28!! I now have an Albion which is very good but not a patch on the RD.
