So this is whats happened to Totilas...

I only watched 10 minutes of it - Totilas looks tense and unhappy. I used to love dressage, but when I see these top class horses working like this, I can't help thinking there's something highly unnatural about it....it was uncomfortable viewing.

Beautifully put Marydoll!

Does anyone know how recent this footage is? (I'm on my phone and can't see the video info). I really thought that the tenseness and basic communication errors would have subsided by now :-(

Saw the thread in CR about it, but didn't read all of it. Poor boy, he doesn't look at all happy :( From what I can translate from youtube, it was 5th Feb this year VVD, so recent :(

I showed my non horsy mum the clip and also one when he was with EG, She agreed that it was very sad but said it must be cause he doesnt like the bandages on his legs

I don't mean to come over all fluffy, and I don't think a 'natural life' is the be all and end all - let's face it, if many of the horses on here led totally natural lives they would not survive. Lameness issues needing special shoeing would get them picked off by predators, oldies would not be able to eat without dentistry to keep their teeth going, thin coated horses would freeze without rugs etc. So please don't mistake this post as implying that every single horse should be off living wild on the prairie or whatever.

However, the way some top-level horses - including Totilas from what I have read about his management - are kept is SO far removed from what is 'natural' for a horse that it must surely have some impact upon their physical and mental health. In my opinion, anyway.:o

I know this is totally irrelevent but i couldn't listen to that guys dreary voice a moment longer , no wonder the horse is miserable , he's got that in his ear!
