I finally managed to get my OH to come down to stables :O
And he even -drum roll please- held my boy for a picture

Pointless post really, just thought I'd never see the day!
Please post pics of your OH's and ponies!

My completely unhorsey oh never ever comes to the yard, BUT I got him down and on a horse, I think he might have only had a pony ride once in his life so he did quite well, even had a little trot :)

Doesn't lok like he'll e back at the table any time soon :) Ca't remember last te my OH came to sables :(

I can! He said he knew how to give me a leg up but it ended up in me scrabbling to get on board and the poor horse who wasn't used to this type of activity took off out of the stable with me half on! Lesson learnt I think we are both safer if he stays away.

Qru.. Has he expressed any interest in repeating the experience :-) ?

Ha Ha ! tell him the dark glasses and beard is not a good disguise

My OH will kill me for putting this one on so pleeeaaase DON'T laugh.
He loves the horses but remains afraid. I did manage to get him riding in France a few years back and luckily he had the most perfect, gentle Camargue. He even came out on the fast ride through the forest. Told him to stay at the back just incase he came off and all I could hear were galloping hooves and loud shreiks coming up behind me
Fair play though he did really well !
Remember don't laugh, don't ask about the head on the saddle - I don't know this man and despite the look of terror on OH's face he actually wanted to bring this horse home!

My OH thoroughly dislikes horses and is currently even more off them! He comes up if I need bales shifting but when I gave him the lead rope one time, he just wouldn't lead. It's a shame but he always said he would never get involved and he's not interested and it's my thing, not his.

Oh these pictures are adorable! Well done boys!

My OH is very good and comes down with me to the horses most days (he was made redundant recently so even more so at the moment... Plenty of field tasks to keep him busy!)

He is ok with my haffy, didn't like the TB I had before her, but what really sealed the deal was when I took this little pony on loan, awww..

Mine has no choice he lives on the yard.

His quite capable of catching, holding, leading, is excellent with foals and is especially fond of Robin,
I don't anticipate him ever getting on her though.

When Freya was so ill he was getting up at 4am and doing 2 feeds before he went to work at 6am so I could get some sleep, he is also very good at giving injections - we all are :(

Mines uninterested but great in crisis. Somehow the water didn't make it back down the feild yesterday. We were out so on arrival home at nearly mid night and spotting it still on yard and it not being appropriate to drive someone's tractor without permission especially in middle of night, he volunteered to carry the water container from the lorry down the field. Happy ponies. Then he felt sorry for the ones next to them and came back for more for them! :)

Love this thread!
My OH has always been very helpful, loves coming to shows with me and playing "groom" ;) he even helps me muck out and fill haynets!
On Friday he had his first ride since he was a small child, on my 4yo saint who looked after him :)

Aww :D
My dads really good - him and Rico have this love-filled relationship, Rico will do anything for him - stand still/lead nicely/not make a fuss when having a bath - its irritating! :P

I think you have a keeper there! If my OH EVER mucked out a stable I would know FOR A FACT that aliens had taken over ;)
Every time I go over to his after the stables I have to have a shower before I'm allowed in :P

Love these pics! My OH was verging on terrified of horses when we met - he had his first lesson last week! (Need to work out how to put pics on here). He also experienced a turning point with small ponies - we saw miniature horses and some Sec As at a show a couple of years ago and he decided equines were all right after all. He is now happy to be around any size - even the 17hh, built like a train grey I ride.

My non-horsey OH just likes to shoot rabbits but there are times he thinks he's john wayne...

A little more comfortable although the hat band does clash with the bike.

I'm lucky in the fact he works next door to our land (that's how we met). He feeds them in the morning and turns out for me in winter. If I do it myself he always brings me a cup of tea. Am probably the luckiest girl in the world.

Haha these are great pics! My OH is terrified of them, he just sort of skulks about in the background whenever he's at the stables. Though one day while catching in I thrust the lead rope of an old mare into his hands and ran off before he could do anything! The mare is very good and knew where she was going, so she essentially led him back lol

I'm working on him... will get him riding one of these days ;)

What you've just said describes my OH to a tee! He's pretty terrified - the first thing he said when I got my boy out was "wow he's big isn't he?!" ;) he's about 15.1 on tippy toes :P

:)

I think you should encourage him to ride a bit more. He has a very natural seat and hands - could make quite a useful work rider with a bit of practice!
