So tomorrow is the last day I'll see my ponies in the light!!!

hmmph :(

... mind you not sure why I'm complaining, haven't seen mine in the light except for weekends for a few weeks now thanks to work

I find it quite frankly ridiculous that we have to put up with this outdated, archaic practice. Lets bring our clocks into line with the rest of Europe. Sorry Scots, but if you don't like it - you can have your own timezone!!!

Already seeing my boy in the dark in the evening, as I don't get to the yard until about 6.15/6.30pm.

I am looking forward to the slightly lighter mornings ... I can turn out in the mornings in the daylight for a while :)

Well I don't think you would like it if you were in the dark until 10am!! Up here in bonnie Scotland we would only have 8 hours of daylight if they didn't change...:(

Upbeat post from me.... I like winter because
1. My horses are generally in - and clean.....
2, They are clipped - so when they go out, which is most days, because they are clipped, it takes seconds, rather than hours to brush the mud off
3. They are in when I go to ride, so I don't have to wade through muddy fields to catch them.
4. There are no flies
5. They enjoy winter more, as when they go for rides it generally means that they are gettting fit for hunting / racing, which is what they love. They are sharper, and more interesting.
6. If you do start riding at 6am in the morning - in the dark, one usually sees Dawn before 7am, and there is far less traffic, so far safer......
7. From experience - the darkest is before the dawn - and actually the dire winter months are not more than 3 months of really dark mornings / which includes 2 months before the clocks go back - so actuallly only one month post Oct.....I know I have lived through this for several years. Jan mornings are lighter than Oct mornings......
8. The only benefit of getting older, is that the seasons whizz past so quickly - my 4 year old is coming 14 in the New Year, and I have no idea where those dark months went......but I only have to look at the photos to see what fun we have had over those 10 years of full time horse fun - alongside having bought up 4 kids and held down a full-time job for 10 years as well - somehow we did it and enjoyed it too......
9. Winter is fun - given the right attitude!!

Erm correct me if I'm wrong, but surely you still have the same *amount* of daylight hours, just as different times of the day??
Not sure how the clocks changing can actually give you more daylight hours:confused:

I do appreciate the issues further north, but I also see peoples points that the rest of the UK perhaps shouldn't have to accomodate it.

I stand corrected...just sounds more dpressing :(! Sun rises at 8:45 ish in mid december in Edinburgh and and sets at 3:45ish. That's with clocks back an hour, I don't know if I could stand it being dark at 9:45am! Might just have to move down south...may be ousted by Mr Salmond for not being 100% scots anyway.

I will be relishing my last two years as a student and riding in the daytime, don't be too jealous though, I have no saddle, a bad arm and a mudbath of a field so no bareback either for now!

I can see that would be miserable.I personally don't have a huge issue with the clocks changing, but *if* it is an inconvenience to the rest of the UK I can understand why many would want it addressed.

It's not like Scotland are obliging or accomodating over other matters that concern the rest of the country is it;)

Moving down south sounds like the best plan to me.Lighter and warmer, what more could you ask for:D

we'll give you that, your water is nicer ... although ours is probably a bit more likely to be liquid rather than solid in mid winter! :p

I already see my lad in the dark at both ends of the day and have been for a while! Head torch has been in use a while now. He goes in at 7pm and out at 5.30am.
Having to cycle to work in the dark one way too but that will be both ways from Monday...yuk!

I hate the early nights :(

BUT! the shortest day is the 21st of December :D think i'll be celebrating early! unlike my non horsey friends that seem to love the idea of early nights !

Well apart from my days off work :)
As of Monday it will be proper dark :(

Is everyone prepared? I have my head torches at the ready!

I know I hate it when its that dark that weekdays i never see him properly :( I keep meaning to get a new headtorch but so far have not. Shopping tomorrow methinks. Boy has to walk up a grassy lane to his stable this year. Normally hes better behaved in the dark though! lol

It's this time of year which makes me glad I work shifts. 6-2 or 2-11, so at least I get some daylight everyday to do the horses and can fit in riding if I want to.

It's the only reason I put with my crap job.

The shortest day of the year is my favorite day of the year- because it means that the days start getting longer again :D (I'm odd, I know :o)

I used to moan about the clocks but actually I think with horses it works to your advantage as it gives a bit more time in the morning to ride before work and even if the clocks didn't change it would be be dark when leaving work so I actually quite welcome the clock change even though i'm in the South.

I love the clocks going back and I am another in the far south of England. I get more time in the morning to ride. It is already dark in the evening so been poo picking by torch light for a while any way.

It will be one bad thing if Scotland goes its own way as we will have dark mornings and dark evenings.

Unless your work hours are 7-4, which means that unless you fancy getting up at 4.30am then I never get to ride before work. It does mean I get to ride after work for longer but as of this weekend I shall be kissing goodbye to riding at all apart from at the weekends.
