Stilemans is looming only a few days away, didnt get balloted, weather is looking good, ive managed to stay in one piece, but guess what Hattie is now slightly lame behind again
frown.gif
and ive just had to withdraw from the first event of the season

As Mum put it so well, we put all our eggs in one basket just having Hattie to compete this year and now we've just gone and dropped the basket!

Anyone have any idea what she could have done to herself! we've had the chiropractor out and her back has been sorted and its not causing the lameness, our farrier has come out and had a good prod around and its not in her hind foot. She isnt conventionally lame, just looks "stiff" in her right hind and turning is when her discomfort is most obvious and she takes a shortened step and slightly collapses on it
crazy.gif
we think its high up and are hoping its muscular strain or something. Any other suggestions would be good! (there is no heat, lumps or bumps, she doesnt react to her ligaments being squeezed, and its not due to her diagonally opposite front leg and she's been "lame" for 2 1/2weeks) we're all really puzzled!

Oh bugger Abbie, just what you need right now

What does the vet say? Some things like PSD are invisable. Or could be a hock spavin. Or- friends horse was slightly lame behind the other week- and they couldnt pinpoint it. It appeared to be high up- vet couldnt find anything- They got the physio out, and, the physio found a slow-release muscle in the hindquarters! They just gave that area some H wave therapy, and the muscle regained normal function, and the horse was sound again! How cool is that! Have you a good physio that you can get out? Either way, do hope that everything resolves itself QUICKLY !

Oh Abbie thats such a shame

Was wondering how she was - I would get the vet, I hate leaving things and I like to know what im dealing with, I think you have done all the obvious things but you need to know now how to progress work, no work, box rest etc.

Really hope it is just something little

(((((((((((((hugs))))))))))))))

awwwww babes

im so sorry to hear this, fingers AND toes crossed its all ok...

maybe you're just getting all this seasons bad luck out of the way immediately and by april you pair are going to be unstoppable!!!

u poor thing! so sorry Abs,i was looking 4ward to catching up with you in the flesh rather than email! Hope she gets fit and well SOONx

Oh that's such a shame. Can fully appreciate as my horse was just coming right from an abscess then a kick on hind when he went lame on his right fore. I did 5 days on bute but no better and he is currently at the vets for a lameness investigation.

I would get the vet out for a proper exam - like HJ says, the sooner you know what you are dealing with the sooner you can make plans again and know how long she will be recovering for.

Will keep fingers crossed that it is something minor

it could be so many things, tbh.
cheap route - give her at least 2 weeks off, controlled exercise (either walking in hand or under saddle for about 10 mins 2x a day, as that should keep her sane, stop her doing any further injury out in the field (if she's the sort who zooms about), and should be light enough exercise to not do further damage. see if that improves things.
expensive route: call vet, do full lameness examination, cross fingers.
horses are so frustrating.

Thanks guys

We've had two vets appointments booked but cancelled both because she wasnt lame enough for the first one and for the second one she was sound again (this monday). We are going to give her 2 weeks of light exercise and hope its muscle, will probably get the physio out that did Fiddler as she was well recommended. See what happens from there
blush.gif
Still really really hoping its minor and just taking a little while to heal. She didnt help herself today by suddenly for no particular reason (other than me trying to get her in from the field
tongue.gif
) had the most enormous explosive 5minutes in the field bucking and galloping around like a race horse - that obviously didnt help her and is probably what has made her lame again
frown.gif
Horses!!

if your vet says to exercise her harder to make her lame enough for a proper examination, i would think long and hard about it... i was asked to do this once, but refused. i didn't want to risk making a minor problem into a major one, so i rested the horse instead, and she came 100% sound again, and stood up to A eventing...

That is a bummer

Boo was like that last week! My trainer noticed he wasn't quite right behind in my flatwork lesson and he wouldn't canter on the right leg (right hind was the one he was unsound on) So when I took him home I gave him a good prod and he was extremely stuffy when I got to his biceps, he'd been messing around in the field and must have pulled it
crazy.gif
But he is fine now and in fact I rode him the next day and he was better after I had massaged the area a bit.

Could it be an abscess???

Grace missed the first lot of Areas last summer because she was on and off lame like you have described. Physio thought it was her hock, vet also suspected that area, then farrier looked and a whacking great big abscess was revealed
laugh.gif
It was very deep and had been brewing for a while!

Definitely not the foot, have a huge amount of trust in our farrier and he is sure its not foot. Also the way she moves that leg, its not a weight bearing lameness, its a movement lameness which is affecting the "flight" of the leg. We have made the decision not to exercise her hard to make her lamer, however if she does become more lame we will take her up to the vet immediately, however if in very light work she does come sound we will continue like that instead. just frustrating i guess!

Bloody horses, really hope it sorts itself out very quickly!! an send a psycho coloured thing down for you to keep you occupied if you want?!

Oh poo- I hope you get to the bottom of it- I Seem to spend my whole life keping horses sound enough to compete- I would get vet out and get to the bottom of it asap. Was jst about to have my horse flexion tests today to get to the bottom of near fore being puffy but he has gone and got himself kicked on field so no point now!!! Horses are sent to test us.
