Took Pepper immediately to the vets this morning after she went up a step and was non weight bearing and in loads of pain. Suspected torn ACL, back to vets tomorrow for x rays unless she dramatically improves in next 24 hours.

The thought of surgery and rehab for a high energy springer :( my poor poor girl.

Oh no what a nightmare. I think it is quite common in Springers? I do hope she just tweaked it and soon bounces back.

Oh poor girl, hopefully she makes a full recovery smoothly - gentle hugs, she looks so sorry for herself there

Hope it’s a just a strain..ive been through two ACL surgeries with a dogue de Bordeaux mastiff...it’s tough for you both ,emotionally draining for you and expensive.
If it is acl,go to a specialist surgeon,be ruthless with the 6 week on lead recovery protocol..and given your dog is medium size the odds are with you for a good recovery prognosis.
Good luck.

Yes they said straight away they’d send her for the “best op”.

Money no object, whatever she needs. Poor girl. Thanks for the advice. X

ps she’s a tiny springer. Only 14kg.

Hopefully it’s a sprain..when mine blew her cruciate she carried the leg..

I’m sure you will keep her quiet until you ve got a diagnosis..rest and anti inflammatory usually are prescribed .Her weight is definitely a plus..her energy level ...mmm..good luck...(she’s not a 52 kg ,I can sleep all day type, like my mastiff was)

Yeah she's not putting it town at all just holding it up. How did yours do it?

Michen..she slipped on a tiled floor..in Italy we are tiled inside and also outside on our terrazzo..neighbors cat ran past the garden..she lolloped off after it and went down with a bang..
Many dogs can rupture a ligament simply by jumping into the air for a ball,or twisting to turn for a thrown toy..Ive never played this game since..

We operated and she recovered well.( she-was just one yr old)
We went to USA for two years and then ,at three, she started limping again on same leg..
We flew her back to Italy to have same specialist operate..didnt go well..she died the day after the op..day after, she had an embolism..
Bare in mind a mastiff has hugely different issues from an active springer..first time should be a one off op for yours..don’t worry.
Also surgery has made huge strides since my girl was done many years ago.

Oh gosh poor thing. Metacam takes a while to work as builds up so if she's already weightbearing could be good news? Friend in US has just had her dog's 2nd ACL done. Bernese Mountain Dog = big crate!

Fingers crossed not as bad as first thought. Are you being sent for MRI?

One of mine is very lame and x-rays inclusive. Still not really wait bearing on near fore despite Metacam and various other painkillers. Awaiting vet call for referral - they want to send me to that Irish vet - Fitz something? I must admit that I am rather shocked that my canine vet practice doesn't have the equipment to scan. Even my mobile independent equine vet has a scanner in his van!

It’s a bit pathetic but I actually cried whilst driving there, couldn’t cope with her whimpering and shaking. Thank god horses can’t whimper ?
Not pathetic at all. I drove in tears to a vets with a cat I found dead in the middle of the road. And when Teddy got hit by a car my Mum had to drive me to the vets as there was no way I could drive myself.

Glad to hear she has perked up. Hopefully she was just being a bit dramatic or scared herself! Fingers crossed for a tweak and she makes a swift and full recovery!

Your equine vet may have an ultrasound scanner in his van, but unfortunately an mri or ct scan is a very different procedure which requires a megabucks large machine which only the big referral places will have....both canine and equine!

Good luck both!

You don't have a lot of luck lately, you sure are overdue a break from vets fees! I hope she's done something minor and is better soon M.

I'm starting to wonder if I am doing something wrong to have this consistent bad luck tbh

And I mistyped - I meant to say my dog's xrays are inconclusive hence why being sent for MRI. Hope your girl is better soon.
