So Dexie did something AMAZING last night.

Over the field with his friend bounding about through the grass that the poor farmer can not cut due to this horrendous weather.

Suddenly the nose goes to the floor, the tail goes up and off he goes in his funny mincing way. I scan the horizon and see it- a deer- Dex stops looks up manages to take about 4 bounds towards it before I shout (in my bestest high pitched squeely excited voice) "DEXIE whats this"

Ginger gobshite turns on a six pence and pegs it at warp speed back to me :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

Even my friend stood open gobbed! Such a good boy!!!!

Good boy Dex!!

You've just reminded me of the luckiest rabbit on the planet which bounced out of a hedge and onto the trial field just in front of 'hide one' on Sunday, lucky the dog was more interested in the man in 'hide two'!!!

LOL- I think if Dex was with others he would have totally ignored me (his mate was on a lead!!)- which he has done in the past- back on the long line, back to the beginning of recall training! The last time he went after a deer, there were two of them- thankfully they split up and confused his gingerness- by the time I caught up Dex was giving me the "well helps me catch dinner then mums" face.........

Wow - very impressive! Our recall on anything that exciting is rubbish! :p Have to admit to not really practising it though as it does give them a bloody good run :D

Very impressive. I found to my cost that Evie's recall off a hare was non existant, gawd know what she would be like with a deer! I bet you can't believe it was the same dog you were struggling with not so long ago.:D

We do still struggle on sight of another dog approaching- seem to be fine now with them being behind us- but a martingale headcollar is helping no end- mainly because if it is pulled tight enough when he kicks off- he can not make any noise- also given up with all click treat stuff and he now just gets a LEAVE IT!!! Helps put other owners more at ease at least.

Well if there was a award for most improved dog and hard working owner you would get my vote.:D

I know what you mean about the clicker and food reward, it has it place, if I am training for a trick I find its great, but when walking near anything remotely exciting it just does not engage the dog.

I find it does not work as they have to offer you the correct behaviour before getting a click.......... he simply doesnt!! and thanks DG! :)
