As we are not going to pay £18.50 per Equimax from the lovely farmer with no box or instructions. So we have been given a weeks notice

I have sent Virbac who manufacture the wormer an email stating that these are being sold without, and they have replied stating that these can not be guaranteed that they have not been contaminated and also if I can let them know where I have got these from? (I havent told the farmer this, nor have I replied back to Virbac)

Please I need to know what you would do in my position :confused::confused:

Start calling round alternative yards. Sorry that's not what you want to hear but if I didn't trust a YO I wouldn't stay on a yard.

I wouldn't feed my horse something I didn't know what it was (price is a side issue) and if he doesn't understand that - again good reason to leave.

I would not give the wormer. Depending on how much you like the yard, I'd either suck it up, pay the charge and buy my own or move to another yard.

Oh poor you. If I were you I'd pay the money for the wormer and chuck it in the bin and buy your own to keep the peace whilst you find a new yard. Good luck

Move - no way would I stay on a yard with such an irresponsible YO. What he is doing is, in fact illegal, I would email Virbac back and report the matter to the VMD.

Move yards is the desired answer but I know its not always as easy as that.

My advice is to speak to him collectively, he surely won't want to upset all his livery clients and lose their money.

First words from his mouth is ******* off said continually then he adds if you don't like it move off! I cant get a word in edge ways. I think he knows he's been caught in the ripping us off act, and now he's cornered and cant answer for himself otherwise to just keep swearing.

I have even offered to get a refund for him but he's not having any of it,cause then I will know what he has paid.

Heres the reply from Verbac.....

Dear Ms ********

Thank you for your email, please could you tell me where you purchased the Equimax from and whether the syringes were still in their original blister pack? If they have been removed from their packaging, I am afraid we would be unable to guarantee that they had not been contaminated. However, you should be able to see a batch number (BN:) and expiry date (EXPD:) on the side of the syringe.

Kind regards

Instructions should be on the side of the syringe, the plastic top should still be intact which will prove it has not been opened, tablets are about £15 gel is about £12, i would be pissed myself esp if he wont discuss it, probably been convinced by one of his mates that this is the right thing to do for his liveries.

How many if you disagree? Why is he trying to get you to worm? I always thought going by Westgate labs that April is tape worm. I think your options are buy it and bin it or leave. I would try to buy and bin just to simply bide some time as wouldn't want to move to a yard quickly thennot like it and have to move again. Regarding the weeks notice - do you pay weekly or monthly. If monthly I would request a months notice.

Looks to me as if the farmer is just trying to get a few extra quid by buying wormers in bulk and selling them on the liveries for a bit more.....same as bales of hay etc. Do you all have to worm at the same time, in which case it maybe makes sense ?

What is it you are objecting to, OP? Worming, price or the lack of box? If all 3, then I suppose you just have to find another yard, if it's the price only, well, for the sake of £6 price difference, is it really worth getting so worked up?
Are you saying that the syringes of wormer have been taken out of the blister pack? Do you know why? Is the nozzle cover still in place?

Just move and put it down to experience. TBH I think arguing over the wormer is pretty childish. It may well be the price the farmer paid and remember they have had to go and get it at their inconvenience to convenience you.
Its rather like when people argue over the price of hay and straw. It may well be cheaper elsewhere but when a YO delivers it to the stable door the horse owner hasn't had to source it or fetch it thus saving them time and money in petrol.
Its a free country, the YO is entitled to their opinion and rules and so are you; probably best all round to find a different yard for your horse if you are unhappy with anything at the present yard.

This ^^ I'm not sure exactly what the problem is either.

I buy all wormers for the horses on my farm and I worm all horses. The monthly livery price includes this for my owners so they still pay the same price each month. If I can get the wormers cheap, great I make a little savings, if not then oh well it's covered anyway.

OP, I would buy the wormer, bin it quietly and then worm with appropriate stuff purchased else where in order to give yourself time to hunt for a new yard properly. Haste in this matter will probably result in upsetting your horses more. For the sake of £18.50, you could save your horse a lot of upset.

And, ditto the others, get a new yard as soon as you can.

You are upsetting yourself over a very small amount of money and I take exception to the BLOODY FARMERS. Where would you be without them?

Just pay and bin it to keep him happy. Don't know about you but I have always tried my best to keep my horse where he is if he is happy. People talk and one mishap with one yeard might put you on the 'red list' and then nobody will want to take in your horse.

It's not that much money and TBH wouldn't be worth all the hassle for me. If your horse is happy just pay, bin and buy your own. It's not worth falling out over something little you might regret it in the future.

In the short term I would pay and if equimax say it is unsuitable then I would quietly bin it. That gives you longer to look around than refusing it would. It would be interesting to know where he bought it from, and if they are an AMTRA SQP. I suspect perhaps not.

Nope.

Livery yards are run on a feudal system. If you don't like the bizarre foibles of the YO you generally have to leave.

Unfair, but a democracy, it isn't.

I take it you have a lowly opinion of YO's then ;) :D

Farmers yard, farmers rules :/ could be multiple reasons for wormers being out the box but I did get a job lot of equimax from America worked out £8 a tube. They had no box so have a look on kv supplies I reckon they are probs from there

you could buy it off him then send it to the people you contacted if you are very concerned about it and buy your own wormer.
you can move immediately.
move after you've found the right place but buy from farmer.
you can just buy it, worm and carry on as normal.
