So we are now being asked to leave the yard :(

There have been several warnings made over the importation of counterfit wormers.
The wormers should be supplied in the original sealed packaging which will have the expiry date and batch number printed on them.
If they are not supplied in the original packaging then one should be concerned as to if they are the genuine products.
A counterfit product could harm your horse.

Without the 'bloody farmers' we would have no hay, no straw, no feed and no DIY livery yards. If I go to a shop and do not like the service provided there, then I take my custom elsewhere, I suggest that those who do not like the service their livery yard owner supplies do the same. Or do as others of us have done, buy your own land and yard, then you have no 'bloody farmer' to deal with, except for buying hay, straw and feed.

BLOODY FARMERS! :mad::mad::mad:

This is very unfair!

All the farmers I kept my old horse with, and the one who I kept Mollie with until a year ago, were as honest, straight and fair as you could wish.

In fact, when I think about it, the farmers I've known have all been exceptionally kind and generous YOs. Maybe yours isn't, but it's not fair to curse them all.

Where does it say it was out of date?

I wondered that too. Went back to check and saw nothing but then thought perhaps the post had been edited. Out of date wormers aren't usually dangerous, they may lose their potency to a degree but so long as they're not years out of day and are sealed then they are safe.

I would not give the wormer. Depending on how much you like the yard, I'd either suck it up, pay the charge and buy my own or move to another yard.

Yup, that's what I would do, definitely wouldn't give the horses the wormer, even if I paid it just to keep the peace, but it depends how much I liked the yard overall I think

oh and as an aside, I love both my farmers, they don't really get involved with worming and such but it's nice to know they're there when I encounter a problem that cannot be solved with baling twine, duct tape and ingenuity alone :) I have seen them both go above and beyond to help their liveries out but I do accept that you can get unscrupulous people in all walks of life, perhaps you've been unlucky enough to meet one. Good luck!

Is the wormer out of date or with the top broken? I'm still not sure.

When I had liveries I insisted all were wormed together with mine, and most left it to me to get the wormers for them.

TBH, I'm almost impressed that a "bloody farmer" type YO would go to the trouble of arranging worming for his liveries!

A weeks notice is not fair though. Unless you have been really kicking off about this and telling him you would write to worming companies etc...

Now you mention it, none of the farmers who I liveried my horses with ever mentioned worming! Livery was always DIY and you did whatever you wanted to do about worming.

Couldnt you just ask him where he got them from And speak to them about authenticity or has that boat sailed ?
I wouldnt be on a yard where the yo was incapable of communicating, unless to swear at you.

I am sorry about the "Bloody farmers" comment and yes know doubt there are a few decent ones out there.

Yes I've read all your views ( thanks guys) and taken in what's been said, yes its my stubbornness at the fact that he's taking us for a bit of a ride. I'm going to sleep on it, see how I feel in the morning

I think the issue of knock off/unlicensed import wormers is a genuine one,and enough to cause concern about using the product.

However if you are happy at the yard in other ways then it doesn't seem like a dealbreaker to me.

Pay the money, buy another wormer and maybe open the way for discussions in the future about buying in your own.

Then send the company a response to that email telling them exactly what the guy is doing just in case they are suspect products and it needs to be addressed officially.Sure they will keep their source confidential if you ask them;)

I wouldn't move over it if you and horse are happy there normally. It's 18 quid, you might end up paying that much more a week or month if you move.

I don't think him charging you an inflated price is particularly surprising, he's hardly making mega bucks off a DIY yard, lots of liveries do that kind of thing and in fact businesses in general charge you more to make things convenient.

As long as it is in date, sealed and properly labelled then I would probably use it. You could have asked him where he got them but something tells me you'd better not aggravate him further now if you want to stay... Pick your battles wisely when dealing with farmers!

I wouldn't pay it and if someone can't communicate with me over and issue which is genuine then I'd move.

Yes it started over a wormer, which I wouldn't buy either, but the attitude shown by the YO is disgraceful. Try to talk to them and they start swearing at you? What self respecting YO on here condones that?

Find somewhere else and move as this may only be the tip of the iceberg.

For me this would be a trust issue, along with the appalling lack of respect from the farmer. I personally wouldn't take being spoken to in that manner. You wouldn't take it off any other service provider, so why take it now? Money would be the least of my worries.

If you can't move for financial reasons, there's nowhere else, etc., or you just don't fancy the hassle, I guess you could ask the farmer not to provide you with wormer in the future and not to charge you for it.

At a previous yard, run by a farmer, he bought the wormer in bulk and passed the savings on to us. We were all advised prior to moving there that all horses were to be innoculated and wormed.
