We've done the mares v gelding debate many times on here *cough* mares rock *cough*

but what about the other way round; does your horse prefer men or women handling them? I have seen some for sale ads, and heard of some users saying their horse does not like men?! Anyone got a horse that doesn't like women?

I was discussing this briefly with my physio this week because Star loves men, and can be a total flirt, (just like her Mum!

) Although she generally dislikes strangers, a man will always be able to win her round ten times faster than a woman. When the hot pilot came to ride her the other week, he soon had her onside, whereas poor Weevil whose been riding her much longer still has odd days where moo is definitely not playing nice for her!

I've actually been riding past my friends yard and stopped to talk to them. His sister has gone to stroke Star, and got her "Jurassic park" face in return. Then Star will start siddling up to my male friend, trying to nuzzle him!!

She also loves my farrier, and he is the only person who can catch her other than me and my mother. Oddly, she has been owed by three women in her life (although I believe she was backed by a man), and as she is a one person horse, I know I'm that one person who can do the most with her, but she does undoubtably, as a general rule, prefer men. Maybe because she is such a dominant mare?

I would also say of my two geldings I used to own, one had a greater respect for men, (maybe cause he was a bit of a thug) and one less so. I swear Will would p*ss about for men a lot more; not out of fear, just cause he was a devil!

Be, well she's anyones friend. Especially if you help her pick blackberries

What about yours?? Does your horse have a preference?

Meg doesn't seem to care who handles her.

Chloe is definitely more wary with men, which is odd as men love her (I think it's her big butt...).
She often refuses to take a mint or treat from my OH, blacksmith and other men, but will quite happily eat the same one if I give it to her.

My Mare loves my husband but no other men??! infact she is wary of men. My gelding loves everybody as hes 4 and a bit daft!! He is too young to know any different!! LOL

most of mine have no preference, but my old Advanced mare absolutely detested blonde women... to the point where, when a good friend who used to groom for me at events had had her hair bleached, the first time the mare saw her, she came at her over the stable door with her teeth... something she'd never done before to anyone, and never did again. a bit of old history surfacing there, i think. this mare was hysterical about stable doorways, and incredibly grumpy in the stable full stop, but sweet as a nut at events and ridden... so, i suspect that somewhere in Ireland there's a blonde woman who strapped this mare up, once upon a time...
she was always okay with me (brunette, thankfully) but she generally preferred men.
i always ask any men who are around the yard to really fuss the horses, because otherwise they can get that syndrome where they are looked after by girls all the time, and men only appear on the scene to do the serious stuff - injections, teeth, feet, etc - so they learn to be wary of men.

My mare is a MAN LOVER !! she loves men esp good looking ones!! I have taught her well - she loves my OH and is always flapping her eyelashes at him! Only thing being tho - she doesnt have a very good gaydar as her favourite man is gay - shame mind - he is BEAUTIFUL!!!

Saying that she loves women too but - she a sucker for a fit bloke!

She also adores geldings - she is turned out with two wimpy geldings who attend her every whim - she cannot be near mares when turned out as she fights like mad which is odd as she will hack out with mare gelding or stallion and is 100% perfect ?!

B is very me orientated - MFH_09 can vouch for that. She's happy to go along with other people, but only if they give off no messing vibes. She'll happily take the pee out of anyone even slightly incompetant and believe me, she knows!! What she doesn't like is too many different people handling her - as I learnt earlier this year when she was on part livery
ooo.gif
Not something I will do with her again, unless less than 2 other COMPETANT people handle her!!

Interestingly, H is better with the new female farrier than any of the male farriers that have done him! He's not bad for the farrier, he just can't stand on one front leg for very long - numpty!! He's perfect for his back legs!!

Berry will love anyone with food!! Esp. BLACKBERRIES!!!!!!

I have a Section A gelding who will do everything in his power to kill any man ( got him from a local farmer,in a very bad way just before he was sending him to the meat man!) and he hasn't forgotten it!
My 16'3 Gelding is homophobic, the yard had a gay groom for a while and my boy always played up for him, to the point that it was getting silly. Needless to say the girl grooms did him and he was like a puppy.

My new boy likes his ladies

J just disliked most people. If anyone was giving me attention he's get very jealous, even biting OH quite hard once after OH gave me a kiss!

He was definitly a horse than needed handling by only one, or a few people. A couple of different people tried to ride him and he just planted himself or ran backwards with them.

He didn't have a preference over men or women, just hated dealing with everyone.

Made it all the more worthwhile when he liked me though

Gin is a real mummies girl

Theres only really me that handles her so I havent really noticed. She does tend to take the pee with the only man that handles her but hes a softie anyway.

PF gives everyone a bit of a hard time at first. I didn't believe it when my sharer in the UK kept telling me that she was a right cow until I saw it with my own eyes! But I don't think it makes a difference if they're male or female. As far as I know she's never given F any trouble at all, but then, she is perfect

Sid loves me more but respects his Dad more. Loves women for the fussing but behvaes better for blokes when under saddle. Interestingly I think he's only been really ridden by blokes but always had females look after him. He hates his Dad grooming him but will stand for me for hours!

Every one we have ever owned has preferred women to men, except a young mare we have now, she prefers men.

Most of mine don't care, although the Painted Pony does seem to be much more subdued around men.

I did once have a parokeet that HATED women, it would attack me every time I went in the aviary (think; scene from The Birds, but more colourful)...........when my husband went in the blasted creature would sit on his shoulder and lovingly nibble his ear.
