So what did we all love at Burghley?

The weather on XC day. Not too hot, but still glorious!
The champagne we took!
My lab behaving perfectly.
Watching the action.
The walk through the park whilst walking the course..

WHAT I DIDN'T ENJOY...

The prices, especially that my 13yr old has to have an adult ticket when it comes to getting in!

Paying £5 for a glass of weak pimms.

The volume of people shopping at the end, and the fact that the shops don't stay open very long after the XC ends - they could make so much more money surely??

With you all the way on the Pimms, I always stay away from it at any country show, they make it too weak and use rubbish lemonade :(

Alsi agree with the shops on XC day, we went on dressage day and can only think they close so early becasue people have more time to shop on ' least' exciting days, but they should stay open longer on XC day, as noone wants to miss the action!!!!!

Picnics are the way forward! Trouble is, I don't think we'd have been stupid enough to buy the pimms if we hadn't drunk the champagne from out picnic... Vicious circle...lol!

Sorry to be negative, but I thought the shopping was rubbish! I havent been to Burghley for about 15 years and was really looking forward to it, but there seemed to be loads of clothes stands etc but hardly any saddlers! All I wanted was a pair of spurs? Badminton is far better :)

On the positive side it was rather lovely to be chaffeur driven there in a luxury chavvy Landrover :p and the course was brilliant, very glad that everyone came through OK despite some nasty falls :)

Meeting some fellow HHOers and there lovely dogs. Even though one of them woke me up bright and early both mornings.

Leanmore's Face as he jumped the last and Carolines as she raced him around the arena

Mary King waving at the crowd as she came out of the water jump of Kinds Temptress.

What I didnt like

The crowd that collected after Nicola Malcolm fell. Being there at the time (but missing the actual fall) we moved off to the corner and watched in horror as 300 plus people gathered in the hour it took to get her into the Air ambulance. :(

All of it as usual!!:D:D:D

Had a fab time with some HHO'ers and our (well behaved) dogs on X Country day.:D:D

As for the shopping on X country day - the shops probably don't need to stay open late as there are LOTS of people who only go to SHOP on saturday and never see a horse!!:rolleyes: It is not unusual to hear at least once 'Its so horsey here.....':rolleyes::rolleyes::D:D:D

Carey - there were plenty of places to get spurs - to many Pimms me thinks........;):D:D

Agree with b_b - the crowds running to see the aftermath of the accident was unnecessary and in very poor taste.:(:(:(

my word - why?! surely there's no need, especially once the medics get there! some people

I enjoyed it all apart from the delay while NM was being seen to, and the horrible heart-in-mouth moment when Alex Peternell fell in the arena (although it was better when him and the horse popped up instantly.)

I don't think the shopping was as good this year, but that doesn't really bother me as I wasn't really there to shop (apart from getting a numnah for my sister's birthday)

We went Thursday and Friday.

Loved:

The weather absolutely perfect.
As always great shopping.
Best food to be had in the food village - Pork and Apple Burger - yum (tis the only time I eat one!)
Great Dressage, both Marys Kings tests, and WFP.
Stallion Parade - brill.
Unexpectedly meeting old friends.
Our annual meal in the Chinese restaurant in Stamford - absolutely gorgeous.

Hate:

Why do people have to take dogs? Around the shopping area I feel so sorry for the poor things in and out the stands being trodden on and tripped over by unsuspecting shoppers.
Some Bolshy traffic attendants - they seem to have changed the exit arrangements around the north parking and caravan park, without giving proper information.

But as always a lovely couple of days and will be back next year - my credit card may have recovered by then!!
