Ok so im bored at work.....I class myself as a happy hacker , maybe push the boat out and do a few local shows/pleasure rides this summer

I mostly am too lazy to keep my horse competition fit

thats why I am happy with the happy hacker label . What does everybody else do??

Mainly hacking with the odd local show/fun ride. Haven't done shows for a few years though due to various things but have plans for her for next year. She'll never be top class due to her age now & the fact she is a family pony for me & my sisters but we love her & she suits us down to the ground

A bit of everything to show her the sights - only 5 - with aim to start eventing soon, BE next year and complete Chatsworth HT Nov in a couple of years - its only 10 mins away!

Continuously saying that I will not be involved with horses, but as regularly finding that they have wangled their way back into my life.

At the moment Im without a groom so I walk miles back and forwards every day turning out/bringing in, mucking out 9 plus the field shelter, feeding, haying, feet, brushing off blah blah that I dont have time to even consider being a 'happy hacker'.I envy you

PS, I have a full livery for OAPs so its not too likely that Id be riding much anyway

I breed so most of our time is spent on the ground with the mares and foals. When I am allowed back in the saddle (post accident) I have one of my broodmares to bring back into work and a few youngsters to bring on. I work for a showing yard so the summer is flat out on the show circuit

I am a returnee novice. I learned to sit on a horse (can't really call it riding) 20 years ago, and I have just started to ride 'properly'. So at present I hack out alone or in company as often as possible, usually 3 to 4 times a week. I have just started to learn to jump and as soon as spring arrives I will start to learn properly and also do some schooling work. The aim is to get to the Badminton charity ride this year and with a view to some xc and possibly jump cross next year, I also quite fancy Le Trec.

I ride April for someone and we do a little bit of everything at unaffiliated local level and lots of hacking. She is 21 so it's just for fun, although I do like competing and I have been really working on her jumping whilst she still can. In he future when April is retired I will get my own horse and do more but am happy to wait til then.

Apart from that I have as many lessons as possible on both April and on other horses as I am quite into improving myself all the time.

I hack, hack, and more hack! It is bloomin marvellous and would not swap it for the world. During the summer months we do a load of pleasure rides with local endurance groups....just for a change!

Happy hacker/driver. But at the mo, with this horrific weather, both are on hold.

Shall I tell you what I did today? Really sad, but I had a go at baking Hot Cross Buns (yeah, the weather was that bad!). Now, if knew me four or five years ago, you wold never have said that I was in any way, shape or form, domesticated. Yet here I am, in happy seclusion, baking Hot Cross Buns, and biscuits.

Shows how things and people can change.

Don't worry - horsey didn't miss out today - OH did the honours, feeding and changing rug.
smile.gif
The Hot Cross Buns? Well, for my first attempt, I did alright - 12 came out of the oven, now there's only eight left....

And, no horsey didn't get any! Far too yeasty for an equine's digestion.....

Showing with Ellie but also little unaffiliated sj/xc/dressage. Have BSJA'd etc with other horses though. Gonna get really stuck in on my showing this season. I'm gonna finish my career with Ellie with a bang and then get into the eventing game hopefully or perhaps down the BSJA route again not sure...

ps: I HATE hacking

I'm hacking at the moment because I'm bringing my loan horse back into work and he's not too fit, but he's getting better all the time and he's really enjoying himself. I usually ride about 4 times a week but haven't since sat cos of this weather.
I've never really competed I get so nervous and I'm not that competitive, also I haven't really had the opportunits before as I only got my own horse 2 months ago... BUT theres a dressage day at an EC near me (5 mins hack) so I'm thinking about doing a prelim there, its in a months time...think I might just watch and then regret not entering!

Hacking every time! It's so easy, chuck on the tack and go, decide how long and how fast a ride you want, and go for it. We are blessed with fab hacking, woods, quiet lanes, moorland etc, so very lucky.

The last pleasure ride I did was three hours, which is just too long in the saddle for me these days, and I do the occasioanl in hand show - ridden is far too stressfula nd involves rearing, spinning around - you get the idea!
