I was long reining Affy this afternoon and got to a junction then realised I couldnt actually see what was coming because there was a jeep in the way and I was 2 metres behind the horse. I had to ask a random kid to tell me when it was safe to cross! Note to self - you're a muppet, next time plan your route more carefully! I was grinning at how thick I'd been
I hacked for the first time in about 3years tonight and was on my own, with YO on foot! It was also the first time of climbing aboard in about 8 weeks too
(cheshire cat comes to mind)
The fact that my 14 year old suddenly decided he didn't know what a 20m circle was and went prancing around the school kicking farting and all sorts - he's usually laid back so nice to see him let his hair down lol
The big lad makes me smile everytime I see him but today specifically two things.....
1) my best friend riding for the first time since June, she had major back surgery and then developed septicaemia and nearly didn't make it, so it was lovely to see her riding again.
2) the big lad yawning about 100 times after being ridden for all of 20mins ;-)
My boy cantering down the field as I carried a bucket of water to top up his water supply and the look he gave me when he realised it wasn't an extra feed.
my naglet usually does something that makes me smile, however today it was-to start-her good behavior whilst being clipped after not having been done for at least 3 years.
and her trying to bite my knees then acting innocent, pulling faces at her tickly spots, eyeballing the woman clipping one minute then being half asleep..oh she does make me giggle.
Mum's big fat cob came racing down the field when he saw me with armfuls of hay, skidded to a stop right in front of me and sprayed me with mud! wasn't smiling at first, but then saw the funny side of it! haha
My little girl fell asleep on my arm whille I was trying to brush the lick she got all up her face it was our first real "together" moment even though I've had her for 3 months.
The fact that after vowing on Wednesday that I was giving up hacking until the summer because the cooler air has turned my mare into a bucking bronco I went on a 3 hour hack today and not only did my super pony not buck she also stood good as gold when her friend bolted! Luckily friend didn't bolt very far and calm was resumed
My mare who is usually a little lazy, decided it was more fun to go faster than tigger on speed than do any calm, controlled work She's a nutter, but I love her
Whilst out poo picking, my friend Percy pheasant (yes, a real pheasant!), came over to me for a stroke!! Anyway, something spooked him, sent him off clucking ( or whatever the proper name for that noise is!), which spooked the horses, who then knocked my wheel barrow over full of poo! Okay at the time it was debatable whether I should've laughed but looking at the horses faces, they genuinely looked apologetic!! .......erm, I think you needed to be there! Lol!
I have a 8 year old ewe that was raised with horses (not mine, I got her when she was about 5 years old). She wants nothing to do with my small flock. She lives and breathes horses. At the moment, she is living with my two 2 1/2 year old Shire geldings. When I feed them, I place their feed buckets in holders on the field gate. The ewe walks around and under the horses, looking for any food dropped onto the ground. As she snuffles about hoovering up their food (no concentrates, just ReadiGrass, HiFi, Speedibeet and micronised linseed) quite of bit of it lands on her back. When the boys have emptied their feed bowls, they proceed to eat the food off her back. She stands stone still, eyes closed, tongue flicking in and out in what can only be called a daze or reverie. She probably assumes the boys are grooming her, which they often do. It just creases me every time I witness this little ritual, which is every day.
I have just cleared an area of waste ground. Its a VERY sheltered little paddock now and I am aiming to turn it into a stone paddock.
Apart from the buried sheep netting(all gone) thick brambles and other bits of rubbish, there were some overhanging branches which I sawed off. (All the above have lead to much pain!)
Anyway these branches I left in a heap cos I know my 2 love to eat twigs and bark.
I let them in to their new area and was soon alarmed by my KWPN standing oddly and showing peculiar muscle spasms........Thought he was about to keel over.......heart?.......AtM?.........
On closer inspection I found he had positioned an tree branch where the sun don't shine and was in the throes of an ecstatic scratch.
