So what horsey related thing made you grin today?

I smiled to myself as I kissed my horse's knee when I was bending down brushing mud off his legs, and wondered how many other people would find that cute ....... ??? :)

Going to the field with a bucket of feed and a hoof pick, wondering how on earth I was going to find her in the thick fog........

And she's there, waiting for me at the gate. :D Clever girl.

A fabulous 3 hour hack along the North Downs and back along the Pilgrim's Way, with a clear blue sky and fantastic company. Is it really November?

On the way home from a 3 hour hack, we passed a garden with apple trees. Several apples on the floor which H loves, so I hopped off, got one for myself and then remounted.

At the first crunch of me biting the apple, H's head shot up and he turned his head to see what I was eating. He then proceeded to walk backwards round in circles, trying to get to the apple I was eating. In the end I had to give him half, before we both got dizzy.

My horse having a nervous break down over a mouldy horse poo out on our hack :D

I just don't get him sometimes we had done sheep, pheasants, joggers and donkeys ok but couldn't cope with a horse poo.

I've had so many today, it would take too long to list.
I'm a groom and work with 20 horses, each of them have their own little quirks and personalities that make me smile everyday.

I really think im lucky to work with such fantastic animals :)

Just being around my horses with the whole cat and dog menagerie coming out with me to help me rug and hay. Never fails to bring a smile to my face seeing the entire family out there! :D

Well I just fed my old boy, on opening the door he nickers, munches his late night banana and settles down to chew through his hay. Makes me content, that and all the dogs curled up around my feet snoring.

taking my 4 year old on his first long hack and him passing motorbikes without batting an eyelid and walking out infront as lead horse - makes all the inhand walking out and groundwork worth it:D:D

Strangely... Falling off :D Actualy, i should say, my beautifully and gracefully performed emergency dismount :D at a sj competition :o

Explanation: We jumped the whole course clear, i lost both my stirrups at fence 4 and there were 12 of them :o towards our last jump, i had no control and we were going way too fast, and unluckily she locked onto the wrong fence :( i wasnt ready for it so she sort of jumped me off, i managed to hold onto her neck untill she got to the gate (coming from the top end of the arena) then just casualy put my feet on the ground while still holding my horse, bowed and walked out of the arena :D Horse was incredibly good, took me to the gate and slowed down nice and calm, it was just me riding like a spastic monkey :) but i coulldn't stop myself from smiling, yes im weird :)

So glad I'm not the only one who has cat supervision when doing horses!
Mine also come with me when I check the stock on the farm. I've yet to persuade them to jump on the quadbike like the dog. Would save loads of time if they would!:):)

Went for a nice long ride, bareback, over lots of busy roads etc with a very calm horse! No pulling etc. (he is normally v strong!!!) so made me feel very happy that he was chilled!

Two things, really:

First, had an unexpected hack out with a friend that I didn't realise would be at the yard and it was SPECTACULAR! THE most beautiful afternoon! I was out in short sleeves, for heaven's sake! Boys were good as gold, even when some strangers cantered hell-for-leather up behind us and gave them a good spook!

and secondly, turned him out as evening was drawing in (at 4.00 in the bl**dy afternoon) and he literally galloped off into the sunset! :D (No camera :p )

A ride out on Jazzy :)

Got on at the stables, rode to first gate, got off, opened and closed gate, led jazzy to next gate on the track 20ft from M5 motorway, opened and closed it and got on at the bank (last time I tried this I came off and he stood on my leg :( but he was a star this time) and rode out then realised I didn't have my hat on :o carried on around small loop and then back to yard.

Got off at gate, opened and closed it, led him to the next one, opened it (and left it open) got my hat (:D) then led him back down track again. He was sooooo confused, bless him! Shut gate behind me, led him to the next gate, opened and closed it, then got on at the bank again :)

Left for the bridleway for the second time (!) and got there pretty quickly! Got to the gate and attempted to open it and jazzy stood like a rock - he usually shoots backwards then won't go near it again but he was BRILLIANT :D :D :D

Sedate trot then canter then speedy canter (had to be careful of his slightly lose back shoes) then he ran out of puff so walked the rest.

He also did the next gate perfectly then walked onto main road.

Jazzy normally turned right out of path back to old yard but turned left and was really speedy home. Rode down very steep hill (20%) then back to yard.

Such a good horse. So glad I went for it. I nearly gave up when I got back to the yard the first time!

These are lovely, my smile moment today was watching my 2.5yr old niece riding my dad around the living room kicking her legs and squealing "come you old horsey faster faster!!!" she had already picked his feet out and given him a good brush!!

Frank the old ex-chaser putting his head on my front so I could give him a cuddle :) For an old boy he's such a huge softie!

Yesterday it was cantering the ginger pony - I've not done it like that in years - up a set-aside first, then down a puddly track getting muddy water on my face :D

What a lovely thread! We are all so lucky to have our gorgeous horses.
My moment was hacking out with a friend this afternoon. My grumpy boy went to nibble her horse so I waved my schooling whip along his neck to distract him and he grabbed it in his teeth and started waving it around.

My big girly full of beans schooling this morning :). It's the first time she has done anything but a ploddy hack for a week or so.

My baby beastie doing her first trot under saddle. In control, fairly balanced and I had brakes :D

Great stuff, I have just read through again, I'm glad I asked, have a wonderful week, all of you, I am off to muck out the field now, thanks for making me smile, laugh and grin.
