If you could go to a show what classes would you want them to put on for you. I know we all have different horses and some people even have more than 1

For me.

British Novice and Discovery so that I don't have to get there too early

then at the moment as I have just got a new horse a .90m and 1m amateur class (might as well qualify for something)

This would change though as I got braver

Then later on perhaps a 1.25m Open or a 1.30m Open....but not for a while

Will hopefully have one in the fox and one in the novice/Disc, Perfect - won't have to get up at 'stupid-o-clock!
 
Actually Rambos sounds very good, I wouldn't have toget up either. I don't mind 2 phases though and prefer them in big classes.

I would really struggle with that - Lex is comfortable at Disco and about ready to go Newcomers (fingers crossed). She would have to go into ring 2 and do the 105 as a warm-up class instead of the Disco. Not sure I could do 105 'cold' (my problem, not hers).
 
For me it would be ringing up day before or in morning and getting a time slot to turn up for a Discovery and 1.05 class. Then there would be a taster class of 1.10 where 50% are 1.10 and 50% are 1.05. I know this is same as 2 phase but some places do not run 2 phase.
At the event people would not be hogging the practice fence and no draw reins!

Just like it was before the BSJA changed it!!!

I am stuck between the Progressive and Advanced - I have a Grade A who is a 105 and 110 horse, and a Grade C currently jumping 110s and Foxhunters (which are very hard to find at a weekend), but I would like to try some 125s soon. So at the moment I find it very frustrating as most local show centres won't pay the extra fee to run a fox as it doesn't work out financially for them. So I either start going to Advanced shows but that means leaving one at home or going to Progressive shows and just jumping the 105 and 110 with both, which I don't feel is progressing!! At the moment I am fortunate that I am able to go to Royal Leisure on a Tuesday, but come next winter when I hope to have a full time job I will be stuck!!

I think the show centre should be able to choose their own schedules as then they can cater to the needs of their area. Also I think that Foxhunter/120 is a better cut off point for progressive schedule as this is the end of the 'novice' classes and also the last hieght of the amatuer qualifiers. I think those wanting to jump 125 + on a regular basis are more likely to be more serious about competing and would travel further, have more than one horse at that level etc.

Just incase anyone is planning on doing the 1.10 at WL is not a 1.10, its a 1.15

Now if they would just switch the newc to a 1.10 open then WL ring 2 would be perfect for me too.

I would prefer the odd fun class. They used to hold the odd speed class at summer BSJA Shows a few years ago but they seem to have stopped altogether now. Love those, they're quick to get over with and fun!

Otherwise I like any type of decent qualifiers. Right now the levels Id do are 90cm and BN on one horse and 1.10m and 1.15m on another (then a 1.15m and 1.20 on the next day to progress to)
 
good good - are you on the mailing list? We;ve jsut had the schedules printed and I am spending many an hour stuffing envelopes......nice!
 
yes, we usually get them, or Cath does - one of us anyway.

What a lovely way to spend an evening...

BTW everyone Dorset is lovely and has everything from unaff to proper big classes with an impressive main arena
 
Novelty/Fun Classes would be great, Puissance, two fence challenge, pairs, speed classes, Knock outs...

I was kicking myself for not entering the 2 fence challenge at 'The big North & South Show' at Hand over new year. Great fun to watch though!

Surely the introduction of such classes would encourage an increase in spectators at 'normal' shows, thus, possibly increasing the 'indirect' revenue generated at show venues (cafe's/bars/tack shops etc)???

I think at some shows there's no 'fun factor' i appreciate it's a serious sport that individuals and businesses invest huge amounts of money in, but wouldn't it be great if it was also good laugh!

Just a thought.....

That 2 fence challenge was enormous. 1.85m? You are a lot braver than I am

More fun classes would be good
 
I remember when we thought exactly the same as mistered - people would enjoy the odd novelty class......we did a couple, an accumuluator and something else which I cant remember, and they went down like a lead balloon! So needless to say, we didnt push it any further.
