So what jods/breeches are you wearing to ride in the rain?

As title really.

Am able to keep top half dry; plus bung on a ride-on waterproof saddle cover so saddle doesn't get soaked, BUT am struggling in the legwear department.

Other day went for a hack and put on my Rambo padded waterproof trousers; and absolutely BOILED (tho' stayed bone-dry).

So anybody got any suggestions for summer-weight jods or breeches that will keep one's bottie/legs nice & dry?

None from me but starting to despair of soaking wet knickers now so just a bit of moral support from me and I promise to explore all suggestions given thoroughly for you :D

Mmmm yes, I've got some Shires waterproof trousers, but they're made of nylon and up in the saddle you slip around like a turd on a dungheap unfortunately!

Sorry meant also to say that I want to be able to keep BUM dry as well as legs! Unfortunately the jods with the synthetic-leather stuff seat tends to soak up the damp and its like sitting in a permanent wet squidgy puddle. Yeeeuuucccckkk!

I just go in normal jods, and shiver in the corner of the stable after our ride while pony is warm and happily munching hay.....

Sounds a bit chavvy but would some tracksuit bottoms not just do the job? Get some with thin material and dead cheap from Sports Direct or similar? Just a thought!

I have not worn jodphurs for years now, I swapped to lycra!!! I wear running lycra tights and they are great in the wet as they dry dead quick.

I have 'rain legs', about 25 GBP from Amazon iirc but available from lots of places, including cycling shops.

They are like a waterproof 'apron' for the front of your legs only so no slipping/overheating and can be worn rolled up around waist 'just in case' on long hacks.

Not totally waterproof around the yard but once mounted you'll be pretty dry.

I got some Townend Imp waterproof breeches because they were reduced (a lot) on Derby House a while back and I thought they would be good for hunting cos of the fleece lining. My observations are:

1. You need to pull them up a lot at the knee before you get on as the material feels quite restrictive for schooling in (I am now planning to wear in the show ring as it is so blinking wet everywhere!);

2. The suede seat isn't waterproof so you get the weird sensation of dry outer thighs and soggy knickers ::o quite disconcerting actually, I may even prefer being wet all over rather than 50:50  (yeah ok I should have realised this when I saw "suede seat"); and

3. The "Townend" is because they are endorsed by Oli T? This possibility dawned on me last night when I found the tags and they had a picture of him on it.

So next time I have damp pants I will blame him ;)

LOL!

I just use my waterproof full chaps, I have a waterproof exercise sheet which I can wrap around me to keep my bum dry :)

I've got some waterproof trousers made by Peter Storm (my mum gave me them) which I put over some leggings. They keep me very dry normally, apart from one time when it thundered down with rain for the whole ride and I was sitting in a pool of water in my saddle. The water went through the seams then and I felt like I was riding in a wet nappy, otherwise, they do an excellent job and are breathable so don't make you hot.

Ornelli Prosperi over jods and waterproof OP Trousers over boot tops a friend of mine made the mistake of putting them inside their boots squelch squelch:eek:

I'm another one that just throws waterproof trousers over the top of my jods... Very glam but I put them on just as I'm about to ride and when I get off so not in them for long (I do poo pick in them as well though - Godsend!). Mine were dirt cheap from some sporty shop, like Sports Direct or JJB or somewhere.

Sometimes I just use a waterproof wrap around sheet, then pony and I are both dry. Not great for schooling in as can flap about, but fab for hacking.

Riding tights dry out really quickly in the rain, I love mine in wet weather. You can get.waterproof fleece lined ones too, but they are probably too hot in summer. Mine are Irideon ones.

I just put up with wet knickers. Muck out and do all jobs first, then ride, then suffer in the car on the way home! (or change?!)

How about those splash waterproof jeans?
Or treating a pair of jods with nikwax stuff?
Or full chaps?
Or a long riding jacket?

I have tried the Splash Jods first pair really good Second pair rubbish and the Ars* has now gone through in them and I am thinking about ordering a new pair and I will tell them they will be getting them back if they dont work.
They are good because it looks like you are wearing a reasonably fitted pair of jeans and tuck into Boots nicely Dubarry etc.
And as some one said on here about older men in Jods looking like Toad of Toad Hall you dont get that look:o:o.
I have tried to waterproof jods with nik wax and have had no real success But Ornella Prosperi WP over Breeches are absolutely Brilliant mine must be 10 years old properly washed and re proofed still TOTALLY Waterproof unlike my Sherwood Furlong Waterproof boots which are again stuffed with paper and going back 3Rd Pair total rubbish:mad:

I love my waterproof riding coat, it covers the saddle, has leg straps to stop it flapping, is quite long so covers most of my legs, my boots/chaps cover the rest, best of all it was only £30 in Farmways sale, it's also getting well used this year

I wear my normal thin cotton jods (and S/S cotton Tee) - they dry out pretty quickly. Usually do the stable stuff first then ride and turn him out when I'm already wet - I keep a change of clothes in the tack room JIC. :D
