So what pony books from your childhood still lurk in your bookcase?

All the Jill books (which I stil read on duvet days and in the bath! :D)

The First Rosette, The Second Mount and Three To Ride (like David's mother, I wanted to punch Pat.... :p)

Black Beauty

The Famous Five

Malory Towers

Stacks of The Broons annuals (also read in the bath, and still bought when the annuals come out :D)

plus the St Clares books, a few Saddle Club ones (ok - these are from my second childhood - I like the TV show too!!) Theres also the ones whose names I forget about Bobby and her showjumper Shelta and also there are the Flambards trilogy, and Fly by Night and The Team....

Love reading them !!

Saddle Club TV show makes me laugh, finally an American book series gets mangled for foreign TV. I gave my Saddle club books to my primary school some years ago though I've re-acquired a few since. Wish I could get the Silver Brumby and Heronsway books back

I still have Fly by Night, the first two Flicka books (never read the third, if anyone is ever getting rid of a copy let me know) and the Alice and Harry series of Pullein Thompson books.

As a grown-up I have acquired The Team (sequel to Fly by Night), the Noel and Henry series of Pullein Thompson books, Malory Towers (I've even written a fanfic), Trebizon (also looking for the last one of those) and a variety of James Herriott.

Actually I have more fiction written for children/teens than I do written for adults

Along with the pony books, I've also been keeping an eye out for malory towers, st. Clares, the chalet school & the other 'my naughty little sister' book/s for my daughter. And have to admit, the Katy books, tom browns schooldays, & 101 dalmations I still read now. Loved re-reading the worst witch, little princess, & Anne fine with daughter too.

Several hundred including ones from childhood and ones I've since collected :)

Jinny and Shantih
Phantom Horse Series
West Barsetshire PC Series
All the Black Beauty and family spin offs
Black Stallion
Jill books
Kit Hunter Shown Jumper
Misty series
Fly by night series
Original War Horse book - My horse Warrior, Rosina Copper, Snow Cloud Stallion, My Friend Flicka, Thunderhead, They bought her a Pony, Dark Fury, Pat and her Polo Pony, Bobtail Shawn, Little lass, Cobblers Dream, Finding Our Stirrups, Tally Ho

Autobiographies - Pat Smyth, David Broome et al and hundreds more

I'll stop there as I'm being to sound more than a bit sad

Basically anything and everything I could and can lay my hands on including Spike Milligans alternative Black Beauty :D

Talking of Dodie Smith (101 Dalmations) I Capture the Castle - is a rite of passage book - esp for mums to share with teenage daughters.....

Loads including a picture book about clydesdale taken from a short story by the same guy who wrote 'all creatures great and small' which is also there incidentally. Off the top of my head there is
Phantom Horse series
Silver Brumby series
My friend flicka, thunderhead, son of flicka and green grass of wyoming
Flambards (all 4)
Endless thelwell even the none horsey ones
The horses of half moon ranch
Small gains
Fly by night
Swallows tale
Three to ride
various Jill books
Misty of chincoteague (sp)
and lots of others but I can't see it by now... I have lots of classics that were handed down to me from a friends mum who was horses and my grandma runs car boots and picked me up any book with a horse on the cover :p I feel well read despite my young age

Still have all of mine! Collected jill books, jinny and shantih, follyfoot, silver brumby, saddle club and all the black stallion books. Love to flick through them and relive my youth.

I found my copy of jump to the stars.. (Bobby and Shelta ) when I went home last year.. I sooo enjoyed reading it again .. The rest, Mallory Towers and the Famous Five were passed on to my niece and I still have Black Beauty and the book I learned to read on, The Adventutes of Brer Rabbit with is first page all grubby and worn from my little fingers traceing each word.. I read loads of pony books but I got them from the library. Might be time to start another collection.
