Mine doesn't freeze. I had the sand / PVC (which did used to freeze) topped with Tempo, sort of shreds/strips of synthetic cord type carpet, a year ago. 6" of snow lying on top of the Tempo but Tempo not frozen at all perhaps because it's synthetic & doesn't hold water. However! Getting from the stables across the yard to the arena is like an ice rink!
