So in fantasy land I can afford a new trailer like,
http://www.barlowtrailers.co.uk/image/data/PDF/Eventa-Brochure.pdf
The base model weighs 1651kg going up to 1952kg, that before you add the horses and tack, water, gas etc. I have towed a 2 tonne GW trailer but it wasn't fully laden and it didn't have an animal that weighed 500kg that could move under its own steam.
So what would tow it comfortably and would it go over the average PC field fully laden?

My old Landcruiser could have done this. Loved it - always got us, and laden trailer out of the muddiest field, even when everyone else needed a tow. Miss it lots, though not its running costs.

Friends of mine had a 610 for a while, seeing it loaded up with 2 horses, 1 pony plus all the kit required for PC camp was scary, I left before they set off, the journey was not good they had a flat, fixed that but it was so heavy they apparently struggled all the way, I think they got one brought home by someone else and sold it to buy a lorry.

As for the one in the link if I had £25- 30k to spend I would buy a smart little box and a small car.

Crikey! I mean, it looks very luxurious, but I'd be way too scared to tow it with anything other than a tractor perhaps?! Also, as 'be positive' says, with that price point, why not get a small lorry?

Hadn't realised that was the payload of them but wheels underneath is not a stable trailer for animals. I know, I had one. I've seen a local towing one with two bull dog stabilisers on it (and a very underpowered car now I've read that!).

Really surprised as they are stalled for three. Even my two 500kgs and daughter's 300kg pony would be getting to the edge.

Land Rover discovery would also tow it.
I have an Equitrek and even laden with 2 bug horses, going up steep hills, my disco doesn't notice it's pulling anything!

Well most big 4x4 cars can tow 3.5 ton! My mums merc ml270 for example, pulled a horse trailer with 2 big horses up several Welsh mountains and never noticed at all.
Also if you have ever actually been in 1 you will only get 3 small(13hh max) ponies in, you wouldn't manage to squeeze in 2 horses and pony.

Personally if I had that sort of money I'd buy a lorry

its sort of a cross between a caravan and a horse trailer...personally i would want one or the other because the space is to small to do both!...we have a ford ranger which can tow 3.5 ton.

My thoughts too. I have day dreamed over the Eventa brochure before, and my Shogun would tow it with two up no problems. However, the horse area looks cramped, with tack lockers right in front of where the horse's front legs stand.

So it's a no from me, even if I could afford one.

I've seen one in real life, I know two folk who have them and both love them. One uses hers for two and the horse area looks plenty big enough for two. One tows with a Shogun, the other a Defender.

Well they are showing a Range Rover in the picture, all you need to do is find one that doesn't break down every 5 minutes or spontaneously combust.

My Daihatsu Fourtrak would tow that too. I looked round one of those trailers last year (the smaller one), they've got some nice features.

We've been looking enviously at this too. And yes our defender could tow it with no problem. Doesn't fit in our drive though.....

Disco, land cruiser, Defender.
They are a bit of a compromise tho - we had a Show Treka and it was just ok with one horse and two adults for one night away, not much fun for any longer stays.
Best option we have found is 3.5t horse box and caravan towed behind. Makes a very long outfit though and quite expensive!

Well ain't you the lucky one, yours must have slipped through the net, from my experience anything with the word Rover on it turns out to be a piece of overpriced unreliable ******.

You have been lucky. We have got rid of all landrovers as they are so prone to breakdown. Got to the stage we would only have them in manufacturer warranty ie 3 yrs. Been Nissan 4yrs never been stuck or towed anywhere.

I'll have to disagree with you there. I've had 3 Freelanders, 4 Defenders, 2 Discoveries and a Range Rover of varying ages over the years (My OH is obsessed with them) and only one of the Defenders ever gave us any serious trouble. That was down to the main dealership (it was under warranty or would never go there) being useless so it took them 6 goes to fix the problem properly. A fuel pump went on one of the Freelanders once but none of the others ever went to the garage for anything but routine maintenance.
