So when is everyone clipping?

I will try hard not to clip until as late as possible - he usually gets clipped only once in late Nov/early Dec, but may have to admit defeat and do it twice this year . . . will take everything off except his legs, head and ears. He will be adequately rugged while out and his stable is deliciously warm . . . corner stable, deep straw, huge overhang and thick rubber matting on floor and halfway up walls.

He is already losing his summer coat :(.

P

P.S. He works 6 days a week - schooling, jumping, hacking, cross country, lunging, long-reining and may get to go hunting this winter

When his winter woollies come through fully, I leave it as late as possible so he can be naked (and yellow) for as long as possible and I dont have to worry about the weather changing during the day. Last year he got clipped in the october heat wave as he was really fluffy and struggled with the heat, had a full then a blanket then a full, will probably do the same this year.

Did the ID on Monday, full clip. Rest are TB and WB types so hopefully won't need done for a while as thin coats!

Couldn't get over how long her coat had got! Little welshie needs done but only ridden part time just now so won't do it just now.

Mine are starting their winter coats already, so will be expecting end of October, beginning November. Second clip end of December. I used to do fill clips, but thinking of leaving the legs on. Not sure yet.

I will be getting the clippers out to recommence clipper desensitisation next week. When she gets clipped will depend how this goes and how quickly her coat comes through. I intend to just do a bib clip to begin with and might extend to a chaser or blanket if necessary and she behaves....... want to try and do her without sedation so we'll see. luckily she doesn't grow a massive coat but she really does need doing this year, we gave up last year and just spent time drying her off etc after riding but she is doing quite a bit more this year.

I managed to avoid clipping at all last year. 18 year ex racer in light work that barely seems to sweat. If we do a bit more this winter we'll have to see but would like to avoid it if poss as he kept his condition better this winter with not being clipped.

I like that one of the above posted their work load as justification for their choice of clip. I think some people think that a horse must be clipped over the winter which isnt the case. They should only really be clipped if it is necessary!

Plus hes extra cuddly with his fluffy old man coat on! :p

Did half of her yesterday, ran out of time and gave up ...........so if any of you happen to see a horse hiding in the hedge with one furry side and 3 furry legs......it's mine !!!

I cannot wait to clip mine!! He's not very wooley yet though :O( I loooove clipping!! x Dont like blowing my nose three weeks later and still finding fur but clipping is the best part of owning a horse!! x

Adorable Alice, i did that before, literally did one side perfect and left the other side on for 2 days as i ran out of time and took longer making my line straight than i thought!! x

Can we see pics of each others clips? x

I have been putting off doing Melly for a couple of weeks, but I'm going to have to do it soon! She's a pompom who seems to be doing a dual moult from Summer to Autumn then to Winter! She has a high chaser so that her loins stay covered but I can rug her against the weather.
I also clip right out at the first sign of the winter coat coming out, I dont care what anyone else says, I flat refuse to deal with the yeti pony moulting everywhere!

No lines - off with the lot, it's a flipping yak in disguise.

I usually end up clipping last week Sept/first week of October as Fabio is usually a sweaty mess by then when he's been worked. He gets a ridiculously thick winter coat though. The lot comes off initially then just leave legs on for his subsequent clips - he has at least 3, sometimes 4 over the winter.
Freddy only needed one little apron clip doing last year mid way through! Have yet to see how Donny will fair....hopefully not as high maintenance as Fabio!

No winter coats yet on my lot. Temps still between 20 and 25C at the moment. :D Fantastic! Makes up for the crap summer.
This time last year the Fjord was like a shaggy teddy bear. He's my guide for judging how cold winter will be here.
Depending on when their coats come through will either be mid to end October/November.

:eek: You can come and clip mine then! ;)

Hoping to leave it as long as i can with my lad. It'll be his first time so i might start on some desensitization. But he isnt casting just yet to i'll probably wait til nov/dec.
He'll be having a blanket to begin with and we'll see how he goes.

mine will need clipping by the end of this month, one is lame and out of work- but sporting quite a thick coat! and my other one is in a lot of work but luckily not too fluffy, so can probably wait a bit longer with him!

Mine have already started looking woolly so coats off next week I expect. Trouble is that with the lovely weather we have they will 'feel' every darn fly that lands on them naked :) :)

I'll take a pic of my shetland when I do her in a month or so's time! Last year she got a full body, head and ear clip. This year I am thinking of tapering off her legs just above the knees and hocks as she has stupid leg lines still on in june this year! I have never tapered before so it will be interesting!

The work horses get the full clip minus legs and half a head and after doing about 5 or 6 of them I get bored and start doodling on them :D It all gets clipped off before I finish but I do take a pic before I completely strip them :D

Shall leave hairy horse as long as possible and the get them to remove as little as possible. Don't really like rugging and I think she may be a rug trasher. will probably manage all but the coldest weather without if I go for a minimal trace clip and she's in at night.
