Aren't we supposed to be under feet of the stuff by the end of this month? Down here in the SE we've barely had any rain and the temp's still in double figures!

Has anyone heard anything more about when it's going to get colder? Not that I'm inviting it, but I never know which rug to put on at the moment!

I was talking about this yesterday!

I rushed around organising loads of hay, straw, pellets and hard feed a month ago thinking oh no I'll be snowed in, in a few weeks! Best get the ponies seen to now before panic sets in..... then there's nothing!!!!

I'm not complaining (much) I am enjoying being able to ride since our indoor school STILL isn't finished but I wish I'd not been so stressed about snow when it clearly had no intention of showing its lovely little flakes around Scotland!

Rant over sorry :o

Ive stocked up hay etc in a similar fashion.....still nice to see it all packed in there ready to go though!

The snow can stay away completely as far as Im concerned I hate the stuff! bah humbug and all that....

See I'm sure lots of people have done the same, stocking up etc, on the back of these forecasts, and with prices high and forage scarce as it is, it's probably just put the prices up even more.

Grrrr

No snow for us in Yorkshire, although we have four days left till we see this month out and anything can happen! but we did have a thunder storm with a rather dramatic lightening display.

There I was the other night putting the hay out for my nags in the dark getting on my soap box grumbling away to myself about the bloody fireworks that I could see in the distance, when all along it was lightening.... which I later discovered when I heard the rumbles when I got home. :D:o

That's global warming for us!

I'm thinking I have enough to last me four months. The hay in my area increased last year around December! I'm contemplating grabbing possibly more hay now to do me untill April then that way I'll have more than enough.

I like to know that I'm ready for the worst case sanario but I dont want to take up silly amounts of storage on the yard as its not fair on the others.

I collect my hay and straw via a car transporter and driving that in the snow isn't the easiest so would like to do it before we get it bad!

Well winter isn't actually here yet as we are still technically in Autumn. Reading up on various long range weather forecasts it seems that the sensational headlines of " coldest winter ever" were as usual over dramatised and that they are now saying that winter will be ' average' with a few really cold spells.

I for one would be happy if it remained on the dry side as I hate hate hate the wind, rain and mud. All I can say is, roll on spring and I look forward to the lighter evenings again.

See, I don't understand the whole panic thing.

I know how much hay I need for an average winter and get an extra coupel of bales "in case". I buy this is July so it's here well before anything hits, as well as feed etc. With regards to rugs, I simply see how the day goes and play it by ear. I never watch the weather forecast.

When I've been on yards, I've never known anyone to panic like people on here seem to either. But then we have one rug per horse and when the cold hits, that's the rug they get and we've never had to dither about with heavier / lighter rugs for cobs, TBs or oldies.

Am I just sadly confused? :)

Shhhhhhh! Don't go shouting about it!

I do think we will have snow again this year but always thought it was pretty rediculous to say it was coming in October ....
