I am going on the Sunday to oogle the bedlingtons and support the people who have been so helpful to me with Flodden, also want to check out the breedlines of certain dogs with a view to deciding which lines to look for a bitch puppy to compliment Flodden. Only a thought at the moment as he is only 10 months old, but thinking and planning.

Also have a list of 'things' i want to buy, and friends I want to see.

is anyone else going to either show, visit, or demo their dog ?
 
I'm going Saturday, taking a friend and her australian sheep dog leaving half four as got to be there half six for half eight in ring, think be along day!
 
Don't know anything about your breed but a lot of the show dogs in any breed are closely bred. With your little girl so young you've got loads of time to find her perfect mate. Have a look at the Kennel Club Mate Select page, it's a great tool to work out the inbreeding co-efficient.

I've just bred my first and last litter from my lovely lady and managed to find her perfect mate with the help of this. He has great temperment, lovely looks, working lines and the two of them produced pups with 1.7 inbreeding when the average for the breed is 9.

It's been a wonderful experience, I've been as responsible as I can in producing these happy little pups and you could always give some of the proceeds to the rescue group of your breed.
 
If you have to rely on the KC inbreeding coefficient you didn't do enough research. It doesn't cover imports or go back behind five generations and you can sometimes double, treble or even more the figure it gives you. It is a guide and not gospel.

Inbreeding is not inherently bad - it doubles up any negatives as well as any positives but if the stock is good there should be fewer negatives.

Any breeder should support rescue and accept any pups back at any time -try having a twelve year old returned due to her owner's untimely demise.

I'm doing Discover Dogs Thursday and hope to get back Sunday for my breeds
 
Bosworth - I'm thinking of going on the Sunday (never been before), but haven't decided for sure. If I do decide to go, could we possibly meet up and ogle the Beddies together - as my little lad, Ron, is a Beddy/Whippet?

I agree it's not gospel but useful, I certainly did do my homework. The sire I used was from an AI litter and had american lines. Also agree on linebreeding there are pros and cons but generally the stud dogs I looked at were too close for my liking. As far as I can possiblfy be sure both dam and sire were clear of health isues. Pedigree dogs can be bred resposibly and yes, support rescue organisations as am doing. Also a puppy contract should be drawn up including an agreement to have dogs back is situations change or help with rehoming
 
So what is the true inbreeding coefficient of the litter over seven or ten generations?

I saw a pedigree where the COI over 5 generations was under 2. Taken back another generation it jumped to double figures.
 
You have to look up the dogs further back individually and use your common sense also, I put my bitch in with sire who was the result of a father and daughter mating and the co efficient wasn't that bad. it's only a tool and can be useful if used with other information

Of course the pups COI wouldn't be bad - it depends on the same dogs being on both parents side of the pedigree. One side inbred would not count unless the same dogs appeared the other side.

This is the problem, people spout on about it without any understanding.
 
faro, would love to meet up, on Sunday, my other dog is a beddy/whippet so I am of course totally biased to bedlingtons.
Betsyboop, i know my dogs breeding, and he is 10 months old, bedlington pup, with Jetsway breeding, I want to add in Pengarrig Iron Duke. So I want a bitch pup, that will compliment Floddens line and his conformation and have no CT. Bedlington breeding is very well documented, and they are a very healthy breed.
