so whos 4x4s have shone in the snow and ice!

Well I'm gonna be different - my little suzuki vitara is fab! Love that I have a low and high ratio gearbox if the surface is really bad (although it's permanent 4x4 the rest of the time anyway). I barely notice I'm driving on snow most of the time. The last two years if bad snow it's been a little work horse.

Our disco is brilliant but as we have to share it I've had my corsa today and it's been fantastic

. It's just a tin can so it has a weight advantage

Our ford maverick, my baby, I love it!! Hasn't caused any problem through snow or ice, have been pushing big round bales through field tonight with it and using rough track to check on horses as it is easier than walking through frozen ruts from yard. The Isuzu isn't quite as good (in fact nowhere near but don't tell HIM I sad that!). We bought the maverick as a stop gap whilst isuzu was in garage and were only meant to keep it a couple of weeks, it has been so brilliant throughout this big freeze that we are going to keep it forever and ever and bugger the expense!

Our landy has been out for a play today in the snow! Other half wanted to see how it would cope and it was ace! And I was even brave enough to drive it out to the yard (but not back again, OH had to do that!)

My Landy is off the road at the moment (non snow related!) I miss driving her in this!

i used to have a bright yellow vitara 4U2, got rid of it 3 weeks after having it, never felt anything so unstable on the road in my life, felt really unsafe. but off road it was AMAZING. i do miss it but i dont at the same time.

My freelander has been fab, hope it doesn't end up like the previous picture tho! Totally ungritted round here for last two weeks and country lane down to horses, no problem for the freelander at all. And mine is another Daisy.

Don't have a 4x4, but my Alfa Romeo 156 has been brilliant this winter again - a very unlikely car for snowy icy roads but seems to cope better than many others

They are surprisingly good in the snow, I miss mine

.

Lorna the landrover got badly stuck this afternoon, but I doubt any 4x4 would have gotten out of where I was
crazy.gif
.... but she did sail down the mountain, She got up it fine and was going well until I pulled in and dropped into the verge which was more than 4ft of snow

Shes been great in all other ways .

55 plate Nissan Terrano. It's been fab!!!

To prove a point (educating the children about the advantages of 4WD) I took mine out of 4H and into normal 2WD on a clear, straight stretch of road. Talk about snaking and sliding...but then it is RWD when it's in 2WD.

Quickly popped it back in 4H and smugly drove home, safe in the knowledge that gas guzzlers rock in winter!

Ive been using the hubby's Mitsubishi Pajero l/wb monster to get to the stables.

Have felt incredibly safe as its gripped the roads through the snow and ice and hasnt given me any doubts about its ability to take on more (we havent had as much as some areas in England living on the IOM) buts it more than done its job

On the other hand...OH's BMW is absolutely pants. It cannot get out of the drive. It took him 2 hours to move the 5 series last year and had to resort to driving up on to a blanket. Flippin' Beemers.

My SWB 04 Shogun is a dream, never felt unsafe or been stuck, its lovely travelling along the closed roads to work, ive got them all to myself and never felt scared at all in the shogun xx

I have a renault Megane Cabriolet so obviously not much cop this weather! Looks very fetching with a white fluffy top on it though
grin.gif

So for the past three weeks I have been using hubby's Mitsubishi L200 and it has been absolutely tremendous! Not one slip or slide and has felt rock solid. Turns on a sixpence with the greatest of ease (I feel a poem coming on
smirk.gif
) and I am in love!

Thank you tons to my wonderful hubby who lent it to me while he went away and now has to suffer a 5hr train journey home

My Grand Cherokee Jeep has been amazing - its an old P Reg but it starts everytime and just has not wobbled on the ice or snow. I have been pulling other mums out of the school car park, taking it down tracks, completely snowed in roads, through town, over fields, pulling our muck trailer without a seconds hesitation! Plus it has a very efficient heater and seat warmer!

Was going to sell it during the summer but so glad I didnt - I much prefer it to my boring Renault Grande Scenic!

my dads Shogun (the beast!) has been pulling people out all day, i took it to do the horses tonight and apart from a tractor i was the only one to get near the place,i have a lovely yard but it's v remote. Drove over fields like nothing was there,v pleased with it, i had a similar Shogun a couple of years ago and regret ever selling it! Hopefully buying this one off my dad as he has 5 other cars already! He only bought it a few weeks ago as he thought it might come in handy,he wasn't wrong much.

I love my jeep cherokee!
It has gone where cars fear to tread. It is my transport, my tractor and my horse feed and water transporter.

My Jeep has a name, its Fluff because of part of her number plate - FLF

Daihasu Fourtrak is ace! She is an old dear - P reg - but solid. (Drink the diesel in 4 wheel drive tho)

[/ QUOTE ]

Another vote for the Fourtrak. Mine is even older - K-reg! And I agree about the fuel consumption in 4WD.....watch the gauge go down down down

But, it seems to go everywhere. I only go SLOWLY in the hope I'll never end up upside down in a hedge

I know they aren't proper 4x4 but my little suzuki vitara aka suzy
smile.gif
has done me proud and got me every where I needed to be (inc work unfortunately) and I have been able to go and pick my staff up as well when needed (i'm such a mean boss

We've got an old series 2 landy, I used it to pull husband's BMW out of our icy hilly street on the winch last night. I had quite an audience too, as we live in middle of town, and got a round of applause! Aw shucks...

...and I know I'm a bit fluffy but I always compare vehicles to horses. The landy is like a reliable scruffy old shire horse, needs a lot of food but will always work it's heart out for you. Husband's BMW like a high class jumper, looks good, showy, powerful, needs expensive maintenace but will only perform well on certain surfaces.

A big thumbs up for our super Trooper (Isuzu) - it always takes on whatever we throw at it! This is the 3rd we have had - the only make 4x4 we have had, since 1992.

I loved my suzuki fat boy and was great in the snow and ice with his big fat wheels i miss my bertie, we now have a old p reg shogan and that as been great in the snow and ice, yesterday it got where the vets landrover could not so was quite proud of it (his name is roger.) The shogan is roger not the vet !

Well our Mishubishi Pajero is FABULOUS. i love it..

Mum truddles along in two wheel.. going 'i want to see how it goes' and im going 'whack it in to 4 wheel and lets go!'

Its been fabulous.

But then so has my OH's Mg ZS180... which is deffinatly not a 4X4
