Sorry if it's already been done! But who's turned out there horses this morning?

I'm in Oxford/Buckinhamshire and it snowed a little bit but it's more like a really thick frost over the fields. Gateways are rock hard but once in the field it's fairly soft. YO dosen't normally allow us to turnout in the snow as she thinks they won't see the white electric fencing, but we had a discussion this morning and everyone wanted to turnout. We all have individual paddocks with our horses in, normally two horses per paddock so they don't tend to run out too much.

Put there breakfast in the field so they would't gallop off straight away and they ate that then sort of walked up the field looking for grass. I think they found so further up the field as they were quite settled when I left. So glad we could turnout as I don't fancy keeping the 3 yr old in!
 
Our yard have turned out, and some are out 24/7 anyway- we're Oxon

The only time I would not turn out is if the yard was sheet ice (so too dangerous) or the fields were actually underwater. Other than that I would always, always turn out.
 
Ours live out 24/7 as a rule although they do come in occasionally for the night when the weather is really bad. They were in last night but out this morning. Just debating with OH whether to bring them in again tonight or not.
 
We have around 6 inches of snow on the ground and it is minus 15 + an ungodly wind chill this morning. My horses will be out in their rugs and they are absolutely fine. The day time high will be no more than minus 9 today. They will eat a bale of hay between them and they keep toasty warm.

Horses are made of stern stuff over here...Not so me. I will be dressed up in many layers to go down to the barn to do the chores and then I get back in the house asap.....
 
Im Bucks, and all of ours are out too, i will keep an eye on the gate and my old boy will come in when hes ready but other than that they will all stay out all day
 
Mine is in. We don't have mega amounts of snow, but she suffers really badly with it balling up in her feet and ends up on stilts (yep, tried everything!). She's nearly 29, so I don't like to take risks with her slipping/tripping, so she's having a duvet day. Wish I could!!
 
We have about two or three inches of snow (nr Milton Keynes), and Ella and Missy (Super_Kat's mare) have gone out. Most of the others on our yard have stayed in, but I think Ella needs to stretch her legs after standing in all night.

They went off like a pair of idiot foals, though, bucking and cantering around! It was lovely to watch them having fun, they are both usually so sedate.
 
Glad to see everyone is turning out, have spoken to a few friends of mine and they havn't turned out. Like you say, horses are made of tough stuff! I would never turn out if it was going to dangerous for them, but i'm not sure if not turning out my highly strung three yr old would be more dangerous!
 
I seem to be one of the few who have turned out on our yard! Though Gilby was a bit confused by the white stuff covering the ground and hiding the grass lol. I turn out every day, only time I don't is when I can't bring him in before it goes dark, is raining (proper rain, not spitting) or if its too dangerous to get to the field.
 
I've turned out - mine goes out regardless, as he is so used to his routine he doesn't tend to run around, and the mares live out anyway - I don't believe in horses kept in 24/7
 
Daisy would have been quite happy to go out but unfortunately it is far too icy to get to the fields across the sloping yard and up the steep hill.
 
I'm in Swanley, Kent - ours haven't gone out today. My boy is nearly 29 so don't mind him having a duvet day in the slighest - better than risking him slipping over.

Think he was quite happy staying in the warm and having his hay delivered to his door!! Watching the snow from afar!!

Mine are in today as yard was far too icy to get them across, they seem happy to stuff there faces with haylage, hopefully tomorrow will be ok for them to go out for a few hours, two older one like to come in early at the moment...
 
We have lovely thick snow, and a few of the horses who are clipped or have rather precious owners have stayed in. We were going to keep the old boy in too, because he feels the cold, but he weaved and kicked the door until we relented.

He'll let us know when he wants to come back in! Most of them (10 out of 18) are out 24/7 anyway.
 
mine lives out 24/7... prob i have is that the track from field to yard is like an ice rink.. not sure i'll be able to get her IN for comp tomorrow

The coblet and welshie where out last night, there out 24/7 - they are unrugged but felt toasty warm today! its gone to -2 here, but still no snow!!
 
mine are out
2 hairy un rugged beasts who are out 24/7 this winter anyway (one ISH, on wimpy WB)
and the 6yo who is in at night was thrown out this morning at 6.30am with 2 rugs on (shes clipped out fully)

Me too, we normally lose about 10 days a year turnout due to sheet ice.
 
just a gentle Q-those not turning out because of icy yards etc, cant you grit/salt/put down old bedding as a walkway?

mine are out, we didnt have much snow, more a really hard frost so turned out with mountains of hay,all happy as larry.
 
My two went out while I mucked out. They both called to come back in again, no snow but really cold. We are not allowed to put hay out and the geldings are all out in small paddocks in twos. They have just about run out of grass so will spend most of the winter in. One of them is a 3 yr old too.

I dont care if people think im prescious but no way was i turning out this moring for the snow to ball up in my youngsters feet like stilts for her to damage soft tissues and mkae her foot go at some extream angle- i have seen a horse break a leg because of that. All of our are in today but this is through choice.

My horse is in and i have walked 5 miles today to do her- luckily got a lift back homr tho.

Im in north kent and we are the worst hit i measured 8 inches outside!!!!!!! More is expected this evening too.

It best clear up before monday as we have a coach trip to olympia.
