So You Think You Can Ride

Hmmm.....well I wouldn't be pulling on the reins like him...especially with a Chifney lying below the bit.

Yes it clearly shows he is holding the martingale....however that does not take away from the fact that he is pulling back on the reins.

Yep. Don't forget I had a serial rearer for 16 years. I almost ended up underneath her once ....but thankfully just as she was about to go over backwards she slid down a ditch, I pushed with all my might to get her forwards....and she responded, thank goodness.

Others were not so well off after riding her; she broke someone's nose, she injured someone's back and generally frightened the living daylights out of those 2 and 4 more riders as she toppled over backwards with them; then I called a halt to allowing anyone else ride her. I loved her though - she was my girl and I had many many happy years with her.

A prime example fo my horse, stayed on several times like that it is when my horse does that and starts spinning that I have the problems staying on. Great picture though

I think I would have my arms wrapped round its neck or be in a heap on the floor! I'd worry so much about it going over and landing on top of me!

Scary, looks very close to the stirrup leathers pinging off the hooks, which is always the worst bit IMO

Looks like a racing saddle so stirrups wouldn't come off. Def a dexter bit too.

Well done to him, we could all say we wouldn't do this or that but until it happened and we were video'd/photographed then who knows what we'd look like.

No I would'nt be pulling on his mouth either..... i'd be off like a long dog.........

does not make you a good rider to be able to sit a rear!

my old mare was a compulsive rearer,it was stick-ability not good riding that kept me on her

Speaking from experience - being like that is not very nice - normally when Fleur went vertical - I would hang on for a little while, arms round her neck until I felt myself slipping then take feet out of the stirrups, slide down her body and land on my feet. Walk to the side and then whop her arse and get back on.

I was very lucky in that she was the sort never to kick or sliding down could have been very nasty.

Exactly that happened to a friend of mine when I was a student! Her mare shied at stationary, switched off tractor and stood bolt upright - the stirrups came off the saddle, but my friend stayed on - God only knows how!! Another friend had to get off the hand her back her stirrups! It happened right infront of the principals house too!!

lol how funny!
my horse does that all the time! he wanted to go to the royal ballet school but being a single father i couldnt afford the fees. such a waste of a talent

'What happenned next...' is surely the only question that matters

The horse looks as if it is past the point of pivot and will go all the way over.

GTs....Anyone can find themselves in a situation like this....it doesn't take great horsemanship.....just a phsyco horse. An intelligent jockey would have bailed a long time before this picture was taken
