I saw the original post, they made it as their horse scratches on anything solid, so wooden boxes were no good to them. I agree with @poiuytrewq , it's genius. Nothing lasts forever, and one of mine would definitely try to climb inside a wooden hay cube, and does a nice line in smashing rigid plastic and tub trugs, so it would be perfect for meI think this is a terrible idea Sorry, I was waiting for you to say it was a joke! I can just picture the muddy, ripped mess that would be the after photo.
My Dad made me two wooden hay cubes and they're fantastic. There's no reason they wouldn't work with wet hay.
Will be interested to see!My BF is currently developing a new hay feeder. The hay/haylage will be covered, the feeder will restrict/slow feeding, it will be hopefully easy to clean too.
Watch this space! A prototype is being cut out tomorrow.
Well, I'm happy to be proved wrong let us know how you get on.I had solid box type feeders, mine are forklift boxes so pretty big and sturdy, I know I could drill holes in I find they get manky wet hay in the base after rain mainly but it still drips in off the hay.
They are also a hassle to move around.
My little ponies are great rubbers so I can’t use them anyway.
I don’t think my guys would bother dragging them round. They don’t bother messing with anything much really.
Yes some would still get pulled out but I think it would save far more than my current dumping it on the floor.
I’m going to give it a try as and when I need to start haying in the field.
I do imagine you need a decent quality mat, the good ones must be pretty tough by design.
OMG, the prototype arrived today and is amazing. Rigsby is currently plugged into it. It is slowing him down. The haylage is protected. He's tried taking it apart, tipping it, kneed it and generally tested the parameters (hungry ems cob) and is now happily munching away. Will be interested to see!
I've seen these photos. Awful. No to old tractor tyres .
Google for pics of what happens to horses who get trapped in them, but only if you’ve got a strong stomach. Not all the horses get out alive.
This is not my photo or idea and the post I saw on FB was anonymous
Isn’t the absolute genius? I have to feed Alf soaked hay and it gets trampled or sits in its own manky water in a container.
I thought this was really clever!
