Soaked or dry hay out in the field?

I have a pony who needs soaked or steamed hay as she suffers with COPD otherwise.

Now that the field is covered with snow I've been putting dry hay out for her & my TB.

If I soak or steam it in this weather it will freeze as soon as I put it out, so do you think it wil be ok to continue with the dry hay? So far I haven't heard her cough.

im sure if you shake up hay before hand that should help,

ha, I agree with MrsMozart, it's bound to dampen down a bit! But yes, just shake it out a bit before you put it out!

That's what I thought, but it hasn't risen above freezing level here for days!

I shouldn't think the spores could fly so free in this weather. If you're not soaking it to reduce calories, and your horse isn't coughing then it's probably okay. If you're worried, call your vet

im steaming instead of soaking and its been ok not freezing the hay although very cold here.
