Can you feed hay straight away after it has been soaked and rinsed? or should you let it dry out before feeding? We were advised to soak hay for our pony on box rest with laminitis and hasn't been drinking much.
We often feed hay just after it has been soaked and rinsed. Never caused a problem. Once it has been soaked it only lasts a day at most - you can smell when it starts to 'turn' so we only soak as much as we need each day. Ours doesn't drink as much when his hay is soaked either but I guess he is getting enough from the wet hay.
Feed straight away. Mine actually prefer it still wet. If you are keeping some for later just keep it in a cool place in summer as it can start to ferment if it gets too warm.
Thanks for the replies - I had been feeding straight away but seen a couple of posts on other threads where people let the hay dry so just wanted to check I wasn't doing anything wrong! He's eating it wet.
