soaking hay ?

hello just a quick question......

my horse has been soaking his own hay (getting a mouthful of hay then dipping his face in his bucket )

anyways he is making a big mess and getting water everywhere, my friend suggested i start soaking it myself to stop him making such a mess.

so my question is how long should i soak it for ? i just want it wet i dont want any nutrients out or anything

I soak for 20mins to get sugars out.

Same as the others, about 15 to 20 mins. We just put the hay in the barrow, then leave it full of water while we get the horses in, take fly rugs off etc. Then put the hay in last thing - saves standing around waiting for it!
