Soaking hay

Interesting

For the last 2 years I have been soaking my hay for 12 hours, also when I remove the haynet from the tub I always give it a good rinse. Theres no point in me getting the hay tested as the YO has different batches and they are not used in any particular order

very annoying.

If it's working for you - then there's no need to change?.

I've been using haylage for many years now. It's all that's available on our yard....I really miss the smell of soaked hay

Hi steaming hay is really good too. And less messy. Interesting article thanks.

I soak for around 12 hours for my laminitic pony, although seeing that the sugar content in haylage is lower am now reconsidering as all the others are on haylage and wondering what to do if we have freezing weather and soaking is not feasible.

Does steaming reduce sugars at all?? is there any information on this method, which I have used but only for reducing dust etc.
