Soaking hay

I have decided that now the spring grass is making an appearance that I am going to soak his hay.

How long to a leave it in to make sure I have got the sugars out?

I'd always been told a few hours, preferably 12 but our farrier, a bit of a lami expert told us as that there's no difference between an hour & 12 hours as did the feed merchant.
