Soaking Hay

Have been using haylage but so dear for small bale and too high in calories for my porker. What do you all soak your haynets in? Don't say water! Been looking at dustbins and old baths need to be able to hold a reasonable amount one section seemed to fill the bin I tried! Suggestions please, thanks.

Water butts are great. Fill up, soak hay, empty a couple of hours before you need hay by turning tap - easy to pull haynet out and feed. You might need something to keep it off the bottom of the butt - I use an upturned hanging basket.

I just put my net in a black bin full of water for half an hour or so

I use the extra large 'trug' tubs. About £8.00 from BandQ. Holds a big net feeding a 17.2. Heavy to pull out and then I put it on a bucket to drain before staggering into the box with it.

I use two large ones, we had them for carrying stuff and the handles broke, so now they're for soaking hay. I get a decent sized haynet into each.

The big plastic tubs you get in garden centres are handy- usually I can get 3 sections in before filling it up (with water ! )

I have 2 large Stubbs manure buckets, after soaking I usually hang nets on the gate next to the drain then rinse. I leave them hanging a couple of hours to drip
