Noooo just had a text that prospective horse has been kicked and shattered a bone in his shoulder! Been in surgery today day and now needs 6 weeks box rest. Anyone know the long term prognosis for such an injury?

Hmmm. No direct experience but a lady at my old yard bought a stunning hunter that was bought for the riding school attached to the yard but he totally could NOT be mounted so he was up for sale. With a huge amount of work, including the vet giving him a mild sedative every time he was going to be mounted, they managed to bring him on a bit. Lovely and loving horse. But he was never right and the vets almost lived in his stable. Eventually, an old break to his shoulder was diagnosed and he had to have steroid injections deep into the joint and then a huge amount of time off work. Even now he comes and goes with soundness problems in his shoulder. I'd be very careful.

Well, the only horse I know of that has had a broken shoulder is Tim Stockdale's Corlato and that seems to be doing pretty well! Guess it depends on the severity of the break I suppose and whereabouts it is.
