Was just thinking...

I love going out with my mates (I'm 22) when I go out on a Saturday night I usually don't get in until 4am ish. So struggle to get up for 8am to see to Horse. There are another 2 girls at the yard who are of similar age, so we do favours for eachother. If one knows I am going on a night out, they will turn out for me, so I don't go up til afternoon. I always return the favour though. Last Sunday I turned one of the girls Horses out as she went out for her best friends birthday the night before.

I just want to make it clear, that if the girls for any reason can't turn her out. I will always go up at the normal time. I would never just leave her in so I can lay in.

I have a big night out planned on the 1st Dec, so the other girl will put her out on the 2nd.

Question is, who does the morning after the stables xmas do ;)

Anyone else have similar arrangements? or any thoughts on this?

My sister acts as a sharer and gets to do him on weekends :D Thank god. I don't really drink(makes me too sleepy haha) on nights out, it's just the late night that screws me up good and proper.
But the lady we share our yard with is always happy to help as am I in return-- we do alternate days for each other anyway.

When I used to go out till late.....or early....I was often out late enough to do the horse on the way home to bed!!!!!

That was a long time ago though.....

Now I try to get someone else to do them, or struggle there myself and do it *slowly* and *quietly*......:-)

I have often done that :o infact only did in a few months ago. I wen to my friends (YO) house party. We were still going at 7am. So We walked to her yard and hayed them, rugged, checked them and then went back to hers to sleep!

I cant deal with not waking up early, hangover or not. Ive developed a weird obsession with getting up before 7.

As unclassy as it sounds sometimes if Im getting the nightbus home on a night out, it stops near my yard at roughly 6.30 so Ive just stopped in, sorted horse and then staggered home to die.

Maybe you should all lump it on that morning and get it over with quickly.

Long before I had my own horses and being their only keeper, I galloped at the tracks in America. We did not get days off. Occasionally if you asked but in my case it was very rare. Maybe 2 a year out of 365 days. The upside was 4 hours of work daily for good pay. Downside, I had to be at work at half 4 am. I had a very active social life. Like rolling in to Dunkin Donuts at 4 before home to frantically change and re apply my slap. Less obviously but needed to look fresh. So for 12 years it really did not matter to me what I did, the horses came first. Yes it was a job, but from early on it's drummed into you that horses don't care what you get up to. You have to be there.

I'm an old cow now and don't go out that much, especially in winter, but I never have a lie in. Never. If I need a lie in, I substitute with a nap. Horses, dogs, and cats do not care. We had a barn party that went til 4. I was out at 7 to do mine. The other horses didn't see people til 12. And it's the same for them every weekend. Always moaning about needing a lie in. And no, I won't do their horses. If I did it once I'd be having an extra 3 everyday. Not your situation OP.

You could stay out an extra hour or two and just chuck them out together laughing about last night. Might be kind of fun. Well if you have a driver! A memory for years later.

Normally drag myself to the yard the morning after with a hangover and have been known to be throwing up in my horses water bucket while mucking out :o

I have, in my dim and distant past, fed a yard full of event horses while still dressed in a full length evening dress and heels. Young Farmers Summer Ball the night before, and we rolled in at 6.30am.

The twisted barsteward rider, who hadn't been to the ball, insisted that all the event horses, and 6 2yr old TBs were galloped that day. 4 horses each, all fit, fresh and naughty. No-one fell off, but there were a few tactical chunders between lots...

My friend at the yard has a baby so I do her boy every week day before work and in return she does mine at the weekend. It's blissful after a night out knowing that I don't need to panic about him!

When I did regular all night clubbing I worked ft with horses, so no such thing as a wkend lie in. And even days off would do the same, stagger home, have lots of breakfast & coffee, go straight to work/yard. If not working, do morning jobs, bed down nice big straw filled stable, go to sleep in it. Luckily I've always been the sort to need little sleep, I function ok on none provided I catch up in next few nights.

Often doing the horse's makes me feel better. It is worse sitting around do nothing and feeling rough! For some reason I have got into my head that exercise 'burns off' a hangover so I get up and rush about for a few hours and then if I still feel bad have an afternoon nap!
I find the hardest thing is getting motivated to go out!

Last Saturday I went out but was designated driver so just had red bull and diet coke, and felt worse in the morning than my friend who had drank a lot! Caffeine overload :(

I dont tend to do "proper" nights out unless they're out 24/7. I still go out, I just don't drink so much and try to be home by about 1ish, I'm then at the yard for 7 to turn out. You can always catch up on sleep in the afternoon, or get a stupidly early night on Sunday if you're flagging. I'm in the routine of being up by 6am, though!

Where we are going is right around the corner from yard, So I think we wil turn out then go home and sleep :p

I won't go crazy anyway. I have the Yard xmas do on the Fri evening and my work one on the Sat evening! lol Both are sit down 3 course meals and all inclusive drink!

I remember going up the night after my birthday,I woke up at 6am (think I was still slightly drunk) went for a 2 hour hack (I had to keep getting off to go for a wee :o) then when I got back I tied up at the wash bay and washed legs. It sickness feeling suddenly hit me. It was terrible, was sick in front of everyone (all down myself) then sick on my Horses hay (threw it awayobviously) I felt so bad my friend took over and finished off for me. I have never felt so embarrassed ever! That put me off getting so drunk ever again! Poor Horsey

We used to know we had a goodnight if we met the milkman, and regularly got taxi drivers to do five minute stops at the yard....

I always thought muck heaps were ideal for hangover vomit??

When I had the horses at home we sometimes just turned than out the night before.

I'm most unlucky am on a private livery yard, if i stay out late or am ill i still have to crawl out me bed and turn my neddy out thankfully i love my horse more than myself i still went down when using sticks to get around and was amazed at people sat drinking tea whilst watching me hobble through the mud with a crutch trying to bring my horse in and noone offered to help. will have to find a good sharer i this year though i always feel bad if i dont go down everyday but if am really ill or tired i go down turn out then go back home for a rest before mucking out. My familys not horsey but have trained them to lead in and out and do a rug change for emergencies and my dad will even empty barrows and fetch straw if i can at least manage to muck out bless him

The morning after the night before...verrry slowly! With multiple cups of tea, a large hoody and jacket (again, assuming i have managed to get home first!) usually still with last nights makeup on, and nipping round the corner of the stables if chundering is required!

I always pay yard to turn out for me after a night out. I then go down about 11ish.

I'm not too bad on a hangover (due to lots of practice probably ;) ) I just tend to be a bit slower at getting everything done.

Good job you don't have horses at home as only you to rely on!

Quite easy to fall out of bed after very little sleep, throw on dressing gown, wellies and open stable doors with a lunging whip to herd them into correct field. :D:o

As you don't properly wake up, you can just fall back into bed.

I'm of an age where I don't care what I look like.

Friend of mine with livery yard, is able to get up, feed, change rugs, turn out, muck out 10 and then go back to bed by 7am and sleep. I can't do that as if I wake up, I'm awake (if that makes sense) so will muck out whenever if very late night.

This is a rare occurrence though as wrong side of the half century. Roll on SEEL eventers ball next Friday :p

Ive been known in my 'younger life' to be seen at silly o clock in the morning, complete with mini skirt, high heels and very tipsy bringing my girl in when it started raining quite nastily one night ... running down a main road with a wild arab on the end of a lead rope ... how anyone didnt stop me god only knows

Now Im over 30 and fall asleep at 10pm after a few drinks so wild days long gone :D :D :D
