FB and insta are commonly used in the equestrian community. I have a instagram and FB account (once went into 'tiktok' for a few months but didn't really interest me). I have a real problem with instagram, everyone posting 'edits' of their rides or competitions and just focusing on the height etc etc. Shouldn't we just be focusing on our horses instead of being obsessed with looking the best and showing every single aspect of your life on your page?? Also find it doesn't have the best effect on me. WWYD?? Any thoughts and opinions down below

I think if you know most people post the highlights on FB / Instagram Etc it shouldn’t bother you, as it doesn’t mean same people don’t have lows.

The private moments bonding with your horse / when the wicker at you ARE as important but aren’t massively shareable. Far more important to enjoy the moment.

it’s pretty obvious and sad if someone is for ever dressing up / posing set up pictures on Instagram/ FB but makes me pity them. Doesn’t mean their real life is all sunshine and roses, often the opposite.

On the other hand if someone’s beautified a horse for a show, why not share the pretty pictures with friends on social media Etc.

If it's not having a good effect on you, delete it.

I have a public instagram where I post an occasional hacking video or show off some new matchy-matchy or if I've done something fun, but basically ignore it. I burble to my friends on (locked) twitter and FB about what we've been up to. My friends do the same.

My focus is very much on the social side of social media. I follow friends, rather than "influencers", and my social media experience is far more pleasant as a result.

I think everyone can post what they want to post. I don’t think there should be a pressure to only post the positives or always look your best.

My instagram is public, but honestly it was started because most of my FB friends aren’t horsey, and I didn’t want to inundate them with horse photos. So it’s mostly for anyone who is interested to keep up with what we are doing, and somewhere for me to document our journey. Mostly it’s nothing special, just snapshots taken on my phone, but also if I get good pro photos at competitions or have a chance for someone to video me at home, of course I want to share it!

I prefer to follow those who post real life ups and downs with their horses. The ones that don't definitely have them, they just want people to know it. I don't follow what you would call influencers because they are there to make money selling products they come across (to me at least) as duplicitous.

I’m not massively into social media, but still largely want to post the highs to share with friends eg signs of spring / freshly clipped horse / smartly plaited horse / hacking in a new place / new horse etc

I don’t tend to post about lameness / injury / frustrations Etc as I don’t want to air these on social media
and want to solve these and move on!

I share fun / light / amusing / positive things on social media. But I think that’s common. But doesn’t mean there isn’t the tougher complex gritty side of life too. But I’m not keen on sharing that on social media.
