The beast is on his yearly shoe break. I have been using hoof boots with the view to be able to keep them on him during the day. I am conscious of not leaving them on for long, in case of rubs. I am not riding him, they are just to keep him comfortable while he potters around.

I want to protect his heels and I'm not sure about gaiters. I've read that socks are useful and I like the idea of the hilarious photos I would take :p However he has enormous hooves (size 5 cavallos) I couldn't see me getting a pair of socks over them. How about tights? How effective would they be?

If you cut the toe off, I find it helps stretch. I use my sports socks on my boy who takes size 2 slim, so I guess men's socks might just be ok? I've used tubigrip and tights in the past too - all have worked ok :)

I think it was YCBM who has a lovely photo of a horse in bright coloured socks?

I just used cheap white sports socks, but I’m sure I missed an opportunity there.

They were Cavallo 3s at the time and ladies socks. I think you might be able to get large loose knit mens socks on.
