After 15,000 hits (apparently) I get a phone call from a really nice woman who wants to come to see the horse, sounds like an ideal match so I arrange visit for tonight. I get caught at work and stuck in traffic, so by the time I get to the yard i look like a vicar in a **** house. The horse has decided tonight is the night she is dying her hair from skewbald to brown, so que furious washing - followed by "calm down" prospective buyers dont want to see slightly deranged red faced lunatic sporting most of the fairy liquid! And what happens???? Yes, she dosent turn up or answer her phone or call to say I'm sorry I wont be coming, it would only take 20 seconds of I'm sorry we wont be coming!!! ******!!!!! I've taken four months to force myself to advertise and I CANT COPE ANYMORE
 
That is awful how annoying.......well they didnt deserve your horse if they are that rude and unreliable etc

Good luck though with the selling...Horsemart with the ad in the box seems to do well?? Easy to use site for a buyer.

But people are very rude and cant see further than the end of their nose a lot of the time.
I am finally hoping I have met the perfect sellers who have so far been completely honest.
Perhaps next time phone them to confirm the day before??
 
This happened to my friend when she was selling her mare! She's a very busy lady and had made time for a family to come and view the pony in the evening. She waited around for half an hour without complaint because the yard is quite tricky to locate if you're not local. After that she kept ringing until she finally got an answer where the lady told her that they'd bought another pony that morning so wouldn't be coming! She was furious!!! I don't get why people don't feel the need to inform anyone?! Do they not think that somebody could be hanging around or making special efforts to get things sorted for them?
 
Whilst I quite agree that it is only good manners to let a vendor know that you are unable to view the horse as arranged, I do think that owners need to realise that *they* are the ones who want to get rid of the horse (for whatever reason). You are not doing the potential buyers a favour, letting them look at your horse.
If you decide to advertise your horse, you should also have plans in place for accommodating viewers, at their convenience, no matter how busy you are(not aimed at you, OP).
 
Someone recently asked to view our sporthorse 3yr old, after they viewed another. Decided to buy other without viewing ours, but were excellent & let me know & even apologised for wasting our time, which was very sweet as we'd only exchanged a couple of calls. There are some nice purchasers out there.
 
After seeing my friend nearly waste her time going to see a horse who had already been sold (she rang up on the thur and arranged to see on the sat, I spotted that the ad had changed to "SOLD" on sat morning and rang friend who rang seller who said "oops, sorry I forgot you were coming") I always say I'll ring again the morning before I go to check it's still ok to come (and so buyers know I am def coming).

If I was selling I'd tell the potential buyer that I will ring/text them nearer the time to reconfirm.
 
Shame... but I have been due to head back upto Lancashire to see a horse - was en route and rang to say I was delayed in traffic and would be 30mins late.. to find out horse had been sold. This was my second visit so hard to forget and I was pretty hacked off!
 
I agree that is totally out of order, but sadly part of the problem for dealing with the general public.

The only way to minimise it is to be a little bit more professional as a seller. I would

a) take email address (so you can send more photos/confirm details).
b) take mobile and home telephone number - and ring the day before/morning to confirm and give them a chance to back out gracefully if they aren't going to turn up!

Lots of people just don't have the skills to know how to cancel an appointment gracefully, so just put their head in the sand!
 
It's just plain rude and inconsiderate. But it happens with other things you might be advertising - selling a car, chest of drawers, whatever. We had people forbid us to show our caravan to anyone else because they were on the way over with the money - never showed up! :p

I suppose it's like a lot of things these days, people don't know how to behave! Old fashioned saying: Manners cost nothing! :rolleyes:

I appreciate what you're saying in this but it still doesn't make it right that the lady coming to view the OP's horse didnt even bother to let her know she wasnt coming - manner cost nothing
 
I had arranged with a buyer that I would exchange my yearling with her shetland. She seemed quite happy with that. Yesterday I got my youngster ready for the appointed time of 2.45pm when they would arrive with their trailer and shetland and then take my yearling. At about 3.45 I texted their mobile to ask if they were still coming. Answer was that they were 10 minutes away.

So I waited, and waited! About 40 mins later I txt to ask if they are lost. No reply since then. I waited until 5pm, just in case something had happened. I have since tried to contact them, as has a friend. I probably wouldn't have anything nice to say to them anyway!

Why would they say they were 10 minutes away if they had no intention of coming? I really do not understand it. :confused:
