So set off for SOE at 11am today after mucking out three and lunging one. Haying them and putting them back to bed as it was worming! Had a stress free journey and arrived within enough time for a nice warm up.
Well Dexter warmed up beautifully, got over to the ring and he lit up! Big style! He really tunrs it on for the ring and almost explodes....cue me with reins almost so short they are on the leather! But I kept smiling and managed a nicer test then Munstead but still loads to improve on. I think lots of unaff dressage over the winter learning how to deal with his work as it is in the ring. Anyway had a look after and had 38 so not to bad.
Had a 4hr wait till I SJed!
So walked XC which seemed fine and decided to tale all direct routes and jump off the step into the water at the end rather then the slope.
Onto the SJing - now some of you may be aware not my best phase! I get so nervous, im fine when im doing it week in week out but what with my collar bone and Spider not going so well I havent really done any SJ rounds for ages so am just getting a bit hooky sometimes or sending him a bit - so had two down
very angry with myself as he is a real clean jumper - oh well more getting to know him. Have still only jumped him about 7 times inc at home!
On to the XC and by the time I went the sun was very low and casting lots of shadows. Was far better in warm up and start box no throwing self around! Anyway set off great then came to number 5 (smallest fence on course) small log and he just didnt lock on to it I was checking him and saying look fence but it was so dark round there he just didnt see it and ran into it
cue my up his neck sitting on withers!! his cest and head hit it. Circled him and he popped it fine and went on to finish clear. But where some fences had shadows out from the fence he was taking off there!
So all ok but could have been nasty - low sun very dangerous. So all experience but just a bit frustrated with myself really.
So will have jump lesson Sat and taking the girls to a hunter trial Sunday so that should be a bit of fun! Then off to Borde Hill the weekend after for the OPN and the Intro on Spidey
