Soft lump under jaw

I had the vet out last Friday to rasp the little pony I took on. She had never had her teeth looked at before & she was shaking her head around a lot. The vet said they were sharp teeth at the back & she had to sadate her to do it.
Today I saw a lump under her jaw. It is soft & when I was feeling it, it didn't course her any pain at all. I called the vet & she spoke to me on the phone & asked a lot of questions & in the end said it could be a virus. She said there is a lot of horses coming down with virus. I don't think it is a virus & it is more to having her teeth rasped.
Has anyone here had a problem with their horse or pony after having their teeth rasp.
The vet said to call her out if the lump gets any bigger or painful.
I'm worried about her & hoping it goes down by the time I go to her in the morning.
I am hoping someone on here might know why this as come up.
It sits in between her jaw bones in the soft part & is right at the back of her jaw just before the neck part.
Any help at all please :)
 
My elderly horse suffered an infection to his salivary glands this year. It was acute in presentation. Excess drooling, inability to eat and swelling all along the lower jaw. It's very rare though and sounds differnet to your horse's swelling.

There may be an infection going on somewhere with your horse. If she can eat and drink and is not in distress then let her sort herself out. Maybe a couple of days off work while she gets over whatever it is.
 
Never had a problem after having had teeth done. Trying to work out how it could be connected, but can't.

Try posting in Vets and see if anyone who goes in there but not here has any suggestions.

Hope it sorts out very soon.

There hasn't been any change in her paddock at all & the weather is the same. I'm wondering if a tooth as came loose after the rasping & it is coursing her the problem.

Exactly this sort of lump under jaw was the first sign my old horse gave of Lympho Sarcoma (cancer of lymph glands), however that is very very rare and unlikely to be the cause so don't panic!! Just that it might be an infection in the lymph glands - possibly caused by tooth rasping but more likely the 'grass' glands that others have suggested.

Good luck - it may have gone by today!! If it is grass glands, it will disappear if you take her off the grass for 24 hours as a test.
 
I had something like that the other week but it felt a bit crusty, first I thought omigod it's strangles, but on further inspection there were 3 big bites with crusty tops in a line up the fleshy bit at the botton of the jaw, but it was quite swollen for couple of days. All gone now, just kept washing it with salt and water.
