Was this diagnosed by a Vet & described in such a way? did they mention Lampus!! A soft pallet will need to be handled carefully with bitting, hard feed etc. NO bits that work with a nut cracker action as it will cause a lot of pain to the already sensitive area in the roof of the mouth.

The soft palate is part of the horse's anatomy (in the mouth/throat). Are you sure they didn't say he has a problem with his soft palate e.g. soft palate displacement?

I forgot to mention, there is a superb Vet whom works for Buffy Shirley-Beavan & Co he is called Ben Brain he specialises in soft palate surgery, if the horse is worth it you could always ring and ask his advice.
